Gogglebox stars react to Phillip Schofield’s This Morning exit hours after affair admission

Hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox has just taken a swipe at the former This Morning presenter, Phillip Schofield, following his recent departure from the show and just hours after he confirmed he’d quit ITV for good.

In case you missed it, the 61 year old recently released a bombshell statement about the future of his career, including admitting to having an affair with a much younger male colleague and lying to his wife and ITV about it.

Of course, Gogglebox was filmed before the latest news dropped, which meant that the resident armchair critics weren’t to know about the affair during filming.

However, they still had something to say about Phil’s fizzling career, which has been heavily documented in the media over recent weeks. Including his alleged feud with co-host and former best friend Holly Willoughby.

While being shown an episode of last week’s This Morning, where hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary announced that Phil wouldn’t be returning, fan favourites Giles and Mary were the first to chime in on the situation.

“We don't know what's going on, do we, behind the scenes?" Mary asked her husband, to which he replied: “It's all very rum. It's all very rum, Nutty.”

“Phil leaving the show is like a glitch in the Matrix, Mary. No one knows what the glitch is or why it's happened,” he continued.

Meanwhile, Blackpool brother and sister duo Pete and Sophie Sandiford also commented on the big news, and in their classic style, were quick to make a joke about it.

"Right, now we've brushed that under the carpet on to today's show!” Pete jested to Sophie.

“Anyway! Off now to Phil Vickery with a succulent sausage casserole!"

Naturally, plenty of Gogglebox viewers also took to social media to weigh in on the matter, adding that the timing of the show was incredibly awkward. Especially as Phil had just dropped his reason for leaving the show mere hours before.

"Wooah this is awkward!" one fan typed, as another said: “Ha ha …was it too late to re-edit #gogglebox?!"

Further users flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts, as a third penned: “Too late to edit tonight’s episode of #gogglebox? 'We don’t know what’s going on'- we do now!" referencing Giles’ earlier comment.

A fourth viewer then added that it was “weird to see them commenting on the #ThisMorning stuff considering what was reported earlier…”
