Sam Smith dons horns and a pitchfork despite ‘satanic’ show backlash

Sam Smith previews their Gloria tour

Singer Sam Smith, 30, sizzled in provocative outfits as part of their O2 Arena, GLORIA tour.

Known for their flamboyant costumes, they showcased several outfit changes including a black corset with gold beading, black puffed sleeves, laced knee-high boots and fishnet tights.

They finished the look with red bedazzled horns on their top hat and a sparkly red Satan’s trident.

To add to their performance, they danced while surrounded by flames.

The singer-songwriter, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, is no stranger to showy outfits and performances.

Earlier in the week, concertgoers had complained about the raunchy nature of the show, especially as children were in attendance.

Therefore, their outfit seemed to respond to recent descriptions of the show including the Daily Mail which criticised Sam’s UK arena tour as “satanic”.

In February, allegations began when Sam performed the hit “Unholy” with the German singer Kim Petras, 30, at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

The hitmaker is known for referencing religious imagery, and coupled with the nature of the performance, many were quick to critique it for being over-sexualised.

In February, Sam’s performance saw 106 Ofcom complaints about The Brit Awards on ITV1.

A spokesperson for Ofcom shared: “The majority of complaints related to Sam Smith’s performance, with the remainder about the use of offensive language and consumption of alcohol.”

Sam wore satanic headgear in the horror movie-inspired performance which had viewers share their shock and concerns on social media.

Brits host and comedian Trevor Noah joked about the “I’m Not The Only One” singer’s performance.

He pretended to call his mother: “No, mom, it wasn’t the actual devil… Yeah, you did warn me about Hollywood.”

Later in the O2 show, Sam removed the corset and coat to dance shirtless with only black tape crosses covering the nipples.

They continued performing in underwear, boots, signature long black gloves, and fishnet tights.

Other looks worn included the pink ruffled tulle dress which they showcased previously in the “I’m Not Here To Make Friends” music video.

Ahead of opening night, Sam had told fans on TikTok that the “gay cabaret” was “the show of my dreams.”

Whilst fans and critics had mixed reviews of the tour, Sam appeared excited and relieved to showcase their transformation stating: “A lot has happened in the last five years.”

Sam continues to post behind the scenes of the Gloria tour, where they have been seen with the red devil horns in multiple videos.

The tour, which recently sold out for two nights in Dublin, will see the star travel across Europe for several shows in May.
