Henry Cavill reveals he’s been FIRED from Superman role just two months after announcing his big return… as new DC Films heads look to reboot franchise with younger lead

  • Cavill, 39, was planning on coming back as Superman on the big screen, after his secretive cameo in Warner Bros.’ Black Adam
  • However, that was before James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on as the new heads of DC Films
  • The actor – who played Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League – took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal the news to his 22.9 million followers
  • ‘I just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,’ Cavill said
  • It was reported that Gunn and Safran are supposed to pitch their plan for the DC Extended Universe and beyond this week to Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav 

The massive shake-up at Warner Bros.’ DC Films has continued, with Henry Cavill revealing that he will not be returning as Superman.

Cavill, 39, most recently has a cameo appearance as Superman at the end of Warner Bros. Black Adam, teasing a showdown between Superman and Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam… though that was just days before James Gunn and Peter Safran were brought on as the new heads of DC Films.

The actor took to Instagram on Wednesday to reveal the news to his 22.9 million followers that he will not be back as the Man of Steel on the big screen.

‘I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,’ Cavill began.

‘After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,’ he added.

‘The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build,’ he added.
