Holly and Phil’s ‘real turning point’ in relationship that left him ‘livid’

Alexander Armstrong savages Phil and Holly over ‘Queuegate’

Phillip Schofield, 61, has been the centre of attention across the nation for months starting during Queen Elizabeth’s lying-in-state when onlookers accused him of jumping the infamous queue with his then-co-host Holly Willoughby, 42.

The pair later insisted that they were in Westminster Hall to film a This Morning segment and “would never jump a queue”.

However, an insider has now claimed that Phillip warned ITV bosses that there would be backlash over this but was reportedly ignored and his concerns pushed to the side.

The former This Morning host reportedly emailed an ITV producer before the Queuegate scandal, warning that he and Holly being given special access at Westminster Hall would not be appreciated by viewers.

The source claimed Phillip was initially told there was “nothing to worry about”, shortly before the scandal grasped the nation and saw tens of thousands signing a petition to have both he and Holly fired from the daytime show.

This was reportedly why the host sat tight-lipped as Holly apologised on-air for both of them.

Phillip was allegedly “livid” that Holly agreed to issue the statement on both of their behalves and the source claimed this marked the real “turning point” in their relationship.

The source concluded to The Sun: “It played out exactly as Phil feared. He felt he and Holly had been thrown under a bus.

“It was an appalling spell for them both and, to be fair, much of the backlash was deeply unfair.”

Shortly after public interest in the Queuegate saga began to dwindle, the TV duo were wrapped in new issues as reports of their deteriorating relationship flooded the media.

Then, just last Friday, Phillip ignited a frenzy in This Morning’s fanbase as he admitted to having an affair during his marriage to Stephanie Lowe with a younger male colleague at the show.

Phillip and Stephanie were married for 27 years and welcomed two daughters together before they split in 2020 when the presenter revealed he was gay.

After admitting to the affair, Phillip revealed he had resigned from ITV and would be stepping down from his iconic role on This Morning.

While Holly is currently away from her hosting responsibilities during the half-term holidays, the show’s former stand-in presenter Eamonn Holmes doubts she will return at all.

Eamonn told Dan Wootton on GB News: “I don’t think you will ever see Holly Willoughby back on the couch.”
