‘#GameOfThrones is all the way back’: House Of The Dragon premiere lights up social media as delighted fans share their reactions to prequel’s series opener

House Of The Dragon premiered on Sunday on HBO and the prequel fantasy series drew a strong reaction on social media.

Twitter lit up after the premiere episode titled ‘The Heirs of the Dragon’ introduced the setting and main characters of the show set 200 years before the events of the highly popular series Game Of Thrones.

The premiere episode set up a succession drama as King Viserys I Targaryen named his eldest daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen as heir to the Iron Throne over his troublesome brother Prince Daemon Targaryen.

Daemon was banished by King Viserys after he learned that his younger brother mocked the death of his son Baelon, who died only hours after his birth that also claimed the life of Queen Aemma.

King Viserys became outraged after learning that Daemon during a celebratory speech after becoming the heir apparent referred to Baelon as ‘The Heir for a Day.’

Others were glad to see the prequel finally air after Game Of Thrones  concluded in May 2019 after eight seasons on HBO.

One Twitter user noted that within the first 25 minutes of House Of The Dragon that viewers saw a ‘crazy power hungry relative’, a death, a ‘wagon of body parts cut off’ and a sex scene.

‘I don’t want to say #GOT is all the way back….but #GameOfThrones is all the way back,’ the tweet added.

Queen Aemma and her history of rough pregnancies along with her death during childbirth also were hot topics on social media.

A Twitter user took note that Aemma had five pregnancies in two years while trying to provide an heir for the king with an ‘Oh Lordt’ remark.

Another social media user found the graphic scenes showing Aemma being cut open against her will to bring out the baby hard to watch. 

‘Omg. This scene with Aemma is horrifying and so sickening. I am literally sick to my stomach right now,’ the tweet read.

The series premiere mostly drew rave reviews on social media with one Twitter user using a character from the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire to voice their approval.

The tweet showed a headline reading ‘After watching an excellent first episode of #hotd’ with an image of English actor Idris Elba,  49, as Stringer Bell saying, ‘I want you to put the word out that we’re back up’.

Another meme showed Steve Carell, 60, from The Office under a heading that read ‘House of the Dragon was beautiful’.

House Of The Dragon will return next Sunday on HBO.
