I had sex on Love Island at 19 and wasnt prepared for the hate I got after

Love Island star Emma-Jane Woodham has opened up on the "hate" she received after having sex on the show during her stint in the villa at just 19 years old.

The brunette beauty was on the ITV2 show's second series in 2016, when she got together with fellow islander Terry Walsh.

During their time in the villa, Emma and Terry ended up getting steamy in the shared bedroom, where they were in view of their fellow co-stars.

Viewers were completely shocked at the time, and fans shared their thoughts on the pair's decision to go all the way in the villa, which left Emma fielding hate online.

The former reality star has now opened up on her experience in the wake of Australian star Jessie Wynter revealing she had sex with farmer Will Young in the Hideaway this week.

While producers opted not to show any scenes of the pair getting down and dirty in the private bedroom, Will and Jessie were shown breathing deeply and talking in bed, as Will said it was "like having a work-out".

Beauty influencer Emma, meanwhile, had mistakenly assumed that producers wouldn't show her and Terry getting it on on-screen seven years ago.

The star was still technically a teenager when she entered the villa, and the decision to show the scenes led to seven Ofcom complaints. Love Island was cleared of any potential wrongdoing.

Now a mum to her five year old son Alfie, whom she shares with childhood sweetheart Jordan Bye, Emma, 25, reflected to The Sun: "I would have preferred it not to have been shown. I was speaking to Olivia and the other girls and they said that doing it openly was the way that they'd been able to stop their time in the hideaway being aired.

“And obviously I appreciate the fact that it's a show at the end of the day and they're going to try and make it as exciting and entertaining as possible, but I think it is better now for the girls – and the guys – where that sort of thing is concerned, especially with some of them being quite young.”

The star went on to say that the experience of having her intimate moments shown on-air "does stay with you and you do have to carry it with you".

She also insisted she wouldn't wish what she went through after emerging from the villa on her "worst enemy".

Emma "regretted" her actions for a "long time", and she even regretted signing up to the show at all, as she couldn't feel anything but "sad" when she thought back on it.

The mum-of-one went on to say that the "hate and judgement" she received afterwards took a "toll" on her, especially because her family were subjected to the abuse online too.

The star also initially thought she'd only end up on the show for an episode or two, as she went into the villa as one of the bombshells. Instead, Emma became a massive figure on the show and ended up in a relationship with Terry for eight months.

Terry had previously been coupled up with Malin Andersson on the series, so Emma's arrival in the villa and subsequent connection with him led to her being seen as the "villain" of the series, and the star claimed she got "no" aftercare after the show ended.

ITV has updated their aftercare guidelines in recent years, and a spokesperson also stated the welfare of the stars has always been their "biggest priority on the show".

"It is untrue to suggest we haven’t offered aftercare," the spokesperson told The Sun. "Our protocols have evolved with every series, as attention around the show and the Islanders has magnified, but we have always had processes in place to provide support before, during and after filming."
