IAC’s ‘Boy George isn’t a diva, he is straight talking’ says pal amid Charlene row
I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Boy George "isn't a diva", according to his pal Lizzie Cundy, as she said he is "straight talking" and will always say what he thinks.
Since his arrival in the jungle, the pop star, 61, has ruffled a few feathers along the way, including Vanessa Feltz, 60, who called him obnoxious for his comments in camp.
Lizzie, 54, explained: "She’s since gone on Instagram and explained what she meant – I think the line was taken out of context.
"She meant he isn’t a people pleaser, which he isn’t. People aren’t used to people being straight up and saying what they think."
She added: "He’s not being a diva. Charlene’s enjoyed doing the cooking and has done it without asking and his mushrooms weren’t cooked.
"He was like, ‘I feel a bit sick!’ People aren’t used to straight talking but that’s what I like, he’s true to himself."
The former WAG went on to speak about how he will react to social media comments when he leaves.
"He has the best sense of humour, he’ll brush it off. He’ll find a lot of it funny – he won’t want to hurt anyone," Lizzie said.
"He’s very quick. If he’s not happy, he’ll say so. George won’t sit on any fence, but he’s got a heart of gold."
It comes after A Place in the Sun star Scarlette Douglas questioned George about his past court case.
In 2009, Boy George, whose real name is George Alan O’Dowd, was convicted of assault and false imprisonment as he was sentenced to 15 months in jail.
He was released early after serving four months and has since turned his life around, celebrating a decade of sobriety in 2018.
Scarlette, 35, decided to quiz Boy George, 61, about his past: "What happened with you BG and some guy in handcuffs and a radiator?" to which Boy George replied: “That’s not true.”
She added: "I don’t know the story, I just heard radiator, handcuffs…” as Boy George replied: “It’s not true, no radiators.”
"Oh, just handcuffs!" Scarlette said, before George responded: “Handcuffs is true but the radiator bit wasn’t true, but thanks for bringing it up.”
Boy George later spoke of the situation in the Bush Telegraph. He said: "Scarlette blatantly talked about my court case. I thought it was inappropriate what she did, actually. I thought she shouldn’t have said what she said to me.
"And I thought I handled it really well as it’s a big sore point for me when people say things like that."
