Im A Celeb star Martin Roberts in tears as he announces death of beloved family member
I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Martin Roberts has shared the heart-breaking news a member of his close family has died.
Announcing the loss on his personal Twitter page on Thursday, 9 March, Homes Under the Hammer host Martin, who experienced a scare when he had emergency heart surgery last year, opened up on the loss of his dad Norman, who passed away at the age of 90.
The 59 year old presenter asked fans for their support as he opened up on feeling alone since the loss.
While he admitted he wasn't sure if it was a good idea to share his struggles in public, Martin was hopeful that in reaching out to the community on his social media pages he could get help in coping with it.
Martin uploaded a 93-second clip to his Instagram and Twitter feeds as he said he needed to "surround himself" with people and talk honestly about what he's been dealing with.
“So I don’t know if I should really be posting this video or not but, I guess people deal with things in different ways," he began.
“This is a very private thing but I kind of just need to surround myself with as many people as I can who care right now.
“My dad died yesterday. He was 90 and he had a great life and he died peacefully.
"He died at home and he wasn’t in pain so that’s great," the star went on. "But it doesn’t… well it does help but it doesn’t help right now.”
The former I'm A Celeb campmate, who appeared on the show in 2016, went on to talk about how difficult it's been to cope with the loss, and how "alone" he's been feeling.
He said: “The loss of a parent is something we all have to deal with and there’s much worse losses I know, the loss of a child and stuff like that. But right now I feel really alone and horrible. So any words you’ve got would be appreciated.”
The TV host paused before acknowledging how difficult it is to be honest on social media and he wasn't sure if it was a good idea to go public with his grief.
Despite that, he thanked his fans for "being there anyway," as he cried in front of the camera, and the star eventually posted his video online.
In response, Martin was flooded with support and words of reassurance as he's built a solid community with his followers.
"Oh Martin I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending you love, and virtual hugs. You are in my thoughts at such a sad time," one person wrote.
Another said: "So sorry for your loss Martin. How brave of you to post this and not suffer alone. It doesn’t matter how old your Pa was, it’s still devastating to lose him. Keep reaching out. You are loved."
While a third referenced the Queen's special and poignant words of support about grief.
"So sorry for your loss. I lost my dad 3 years ago he’s always in my and will forever be in my heart," they began. "I still have my bad days but as the queen said 'grief is the price we pay for love' remember all the happy memories you had together."
