I'm A Celebrity 2022: Seann reflects on 'the worst month of his life'

‘My career was dead’: I’m A Celebrity’s Seann Walsh reveals he performed a show to just 30 people in the ‘worst month of his life’ after his Strictly kissing scandal

Seann Walsh reflected on ‘the worst month of his life’ during Wednesday’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, revealing it came in the weeks following his Strictly Come Dancing kissing scandal.

The comedian, 36, found himself at the centre of a media firestorm when he was photographed kissing Katya Jones while she was married to husband Neil, and he was in a relationship with now ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries.

Speaking to fellow comic Babatunde Aleshe, Seann revealed that after the scandal he was booked to perform at a 200-person venue in Edinburgh, but was horrified when he learned that there were just 30 people in attendance.

Hard times: Seann Walsh reflected on ‘the worst month of his life’ during Wednesday’s I’m A Celebrity, revealing it came in the weeks following his Strictly Come Dancing kissing scandal

Reflecting on the most difficult moment in his career, Seann told Babatunde: ‘Easily the most depressing month of my entire life, Edinburgh after Strictly.

‘We get to Edinburgh, right, I think it’s a 200-seater, I’ve never not in Edinburgh sold out the first night.

‘It doesn’t even occur to me that it’s not sold out. Just before I’m about to go on, my agent comes in and goes, ”Just so you know, there’s like 30 people.”

‘To get told that when you’re just about to go on… horrific. It was at that point I was like, ”Oh, oh..”

Scandal: The comedian, 36, was photographed kissing Katya Jones while she was married to Neil Jones and he was in a relationship with now ex-girlfriend Rebecca Humphries

Babatúndé said: ‘Oh, they don’t like me.’

Seann added: ‘My career was dead, I was over.’

In the Bush Telegraph Babatúndé added: ‘We love joking and making things seem as though it’s always good, it’s always funny. A lot of the times we never talk about some of the hardest times.’

Ordeal: Speaking to fellow comic Babatunde Aleshe, Seann revealed that after the scandal he was booked to perform at a 200-person venue, but learned just 30 people were attending

Seann continued: ‘My agent said, ”There’s nothing I can do. I’m sorry, I’ve tried. I’ve tried everything.”

‘Do you know what I did, I thought, I’ve got to learn to drive. I can’t sit on trains, with people looking at me going, ”Is that the guy that used to…?”

‘I’ve got to learn to drive now as I’ve got to hide. Genuinely. I mean that, I swear on my life. I can’t be on trains.’

Babatúndé added of his own career: ‘I stopped because I had a mental block. I can’t come up with new stuff. I just can’t come up with new jokes, it’s just not happening for me. I lost the love.’

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Seann added: ‘There are the highs in comedy but there are the lows. It’s not been an easy ride for either of us.’

Candid: Seann Walsh discussed his Strictly kissing scandal on Thursday’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, calling it the ‘worst moment of my life’

Earlier in the series, Seann had discussed his Strictly kissing scandal with campmate Sue Cleaver, calling it ‘the worst moment of his life.’

He said: ‘Me and my dance partner, who was married, I was in a relationship, we were photographed kissing when we were on Strictly Come Dancing… that was the front page of every newspaper.’

Sue asked: ‘Why did that crucify you? Why did that have such an impact?’

Seann said: ‘To be totally honest with you, my poor ex, my girlfriend at the time, posted a statement. My girlfriend [at the time] posted a statement and that was the end of me.’

Seann said: ‘Me and my dance partner, who was married, I was in a relationship, we were photographed kissing when we were on Strictly… that was the front page of every newspaper’

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph, Sue expressed sympathy for Seann and said he was ‘brave’ to put himself back into the spotlight with I’m A Celebrity.

She said: ‘He’s a lovely lad. He’s a sensitive soul, very sensitive soul. He’s been through the ringer the last three years. I think he’s really brave and I’m glad he’s here.’

In the Bush Telegraph, Seann said: ‘That’s something in my life that I don’t want to go back to. Obviously I knew it would come up. They come up so naturally here.

‘I just want to move on. It’s really nice to have people that will listen and are so lovely and wonderful.

‘I just want to be clear in that I’m very sorry about what happened and I really want this to be a positive experience and it really has been. I want to come out of here and move forward.’

Ex: Seann was in a relationship with then girlfriend Rebecca Humphries at the time (pictured), while Katya was married to fellow Strictly professional Neil Jones

Breakup: While Katya was supported by her husband Neil after the ‘drunken mistake’, their marriage did not last as they announced their split in August 2019

While he was taking part on the 2018 series of Strictly Come Dancing, Seann kissed his professional dance partner Katya Jones outside a pub.

A photo of the pair kissing caused a media firestorm as the infamous Strictly curse reared its ugly head once more.

Seann was in a relationship with then girlfriend Rebecca Humphries at the time, while Katya was married to fellow Strictly professional Neil Jones.

Despite the controversy, Seann and Katya carried on with the show and were ultimately eliminated in the fifth week.

Following the incident, Seann’s actress girlfriend Rebecca released an impassioned statement in which she revealed he called her ‘psycho’ and ‘nuts’ for questioning his friendship with Katya, who he kissed on Rebecca’s birthday. They soon broke up.

While Katya was supported by her husband Neil after the ‘drunken mistake’, their marriage did not last as they announced their split in August 2019.
