Inside Susanna Reid's day
Inside Susanna Reid’s day: Good Morning Britain host wakes at 3.40am, before hopping in a car in her pyjamas and having breakfast during ad breaks as she details her hectic schedule
She is the face of morning television.
And Susanna Reid has revealed that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes before viewers see her appear on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on weekdays at 6am.
The television presenter, 52, has offered a rundown of what an average day looks like for her during an interview with The Sunday Times magazine, which begins with a 3.40am wakeup call from her alarm clock.
Susanna revealed that she gives herself five minutes in bed to check through her emails and the days’ headlines before getting up to begin her day.
The mother of three said that the start of her day is quite rushed as she throws on a coat over her pyjamas and brushes her teeth before getting into the car, which has been sent to take her to the studio.
Morning Susanna! Susanna Reid has revealed that there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes before viewers see her appear on ITV’s Good Morning Britain on weekdays at 6am
The time in the car is put to very good use, as she gets caught up to speed on the newspapers and briefs of the interviewees due on the show that day.
Susanna also takes time to look over the stories that the researchers and producers have been putting together overnight.
She explained that the most important document she looks over on the journey is what’s known as the Grid, which gives timings and key points for the show.
Susanna admitted that it is ‘a lot’ to take in during the 25 minute car journey from her house to the studio at London Television Centre, in west London.
Confessing she loves her early schedule, Susanna said: ‘My three boys split their time between myself and my ex. The brilliant thing about my job is that so much of my working day is when they’re still sleeping and I’m already at home by the time they’re back from school or work.’
Once in the studio, Susanna sits down to have her hair and make-up done by a professional, while having her first coffee of the day at 4.25.
She said during this time she also continues catching up on any reading for the show.
Susanna added that she is then joined by the overnight editor for the show as well as her co-presenter for that particular day.
Schedule: The television presenter, 52, has offered a rundown of what an average day looks like for her during an interview with The Sunday Times magazine, which begins with a 3.40am wakeup call from her alarm clock
Her co-stars are Richard Madeley, Ed Balls, Rob Rinder, Martin Lewis, Ben Shephard or Adil Ray.
She joked just like Bruce Forsyth used to say, they are all her favourites.
Susanna doesn’t manage to eat before the show but revealed that she does try and sneak in some sliced apple and sunflower-seed butter during the adverts.
Once the cameras stop rolling, Susanna heads home and tries to sleep for a couple of hours before getting up for lunch.
She said that she tries to have a healthy option such as grilled fish and veg.
In the evening, Susanna unwinds by cooking a homemade meal for her sons, which she said is often something like lasagne or a roast.
However this time isn’t for total relaxation, as she is usually receiving new briefs and catching up with her editor about the next day’s programme.
While her lifestyle works perfectly now, Susanna admitted she worries about what it will be like when her sons leave home.
She said: ‘My mornings are intense with the adrenaline of live news, so switching off is hard. I’m perfectly happy with my own company — I talk to people all day, I have a terrific team and I love my close-knit family.
When the boys leave home, I know that’s going to be challenging.’
Susanna said she finishes her day with some easy watching TV – ‘nothing gruesome’ and enjoys having a bath to relax before switching off the lights at 10pm.
