Is Brooklyn Beckham trying to be Salt Bae? Aspiring ‘chef’ debuts same black gloves in cookery video as he jumps on TikTok trend… months after his famous family all mimicked the restaurateur

Brooklyn Beckham has appeared to channel viral TikTok sensation Salt Bae by sporting a pair of black gloves in his latest cookery tutorial.

The aspiring chef, 23, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a video showing how to make a traditional Sunday dinner ‘Michelin style’.

He was joined by former Michelin cook Kevin Lee to present the tutorial, which saw Brooklyn get a roasting as fans claimed the beef was too raw when it was plated up.

Channeling: Brooklyn Beckham has appeared to channel viral TikTok sensation Salt Bae by sporting a pair of black gloves in his latest cookery tutorial

In the video, Brooklyn sported a grey hoodie with the sleeves rolled up and initially went gloveless as he started preparing the meal.

But he then appeared to channel the Turkish butcher – who shot to prominence for his skillful meat-cutting – as he put on a pair of black gloves for hygiene reasons to cover the beef in a thick layer of butter.

Brooklyn and the rest of the Beckhams have proven themselves to be long time fans of the internet sensation, as they have been seen doing their best impressions of the restaurateur and visiting his eatery in the past.

Black gloves in cooking videos have become a viral TikTok trend and though it is not clear who originally started the craze, it is thought to be Salt Bae – whose real name is Nusret Gökçe.

The chef was forced to start wearing gloves to cook to avoid a health code violation at his New York restaurant back in 2018, according to GQ.

Article 81 of New York City’s Health Code prohibits bare hand contact with food that’s ready to eat, prompting him to introduce the new measure.

Salt Bae then chose to cook wearing black gloves, which have now become an iconic look synonymous with the star, with more video chefs also starting to choose the same colour gloves.

And Brooklyn has been the latest to adopt the recognisable look, after proving himself to be a longtime fan with his amusing impression of the talented chef.

Sprinkle: Salt Bae, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, is known for his iconic salt sprinkle in his TikTok cooking videos

Back in January 2018, Brooklyn met Salt Bae while dining at his NYC restaurant NUSR-ET and was seen mimicking the chef’s iconic salt sprinkling move.

Brooklyn, who was a photography student at the time, showed himself attempting to pull off his well-recognised salt sprinkle, before panning the camera to show Salt Bae himself by his side.

Brooklyn seemed enticed by the expert skill as he turned to the camera in disbelief while simply stating: ‘Amazing!’

Huge fans: And his admiration for the cookery expert seems to run in the family, as David had also attempted the iconic sprinkle just days earlier

While dining with his chef pal Gordon Ramsay and his family, David took some inspiration from chef-turned-viral-sensation Salt Bae as he was seen doing the infamous elbow scattering.

Captioning the video ‘Nice Try’, the sporting star gave his best attempt at the infamous sprinkle, but it turned out more of a mess than success, missing the base completely with slices of banana hitting the counter top.

Documenting the meal on Instagram, he was seen being fed steak from a perilously sharp knife by Salt Bae himself, before his younger brood also had a go at the Instagram sensation’s famous salt sprinkling technique.

In a clip shared to Salt Bae’s own page, David’s sons Romeo and Cruz alongside daughter Harper were seen giving his famous culinary move a try as they proved their longtime adoration for the star.

Roast dinner: Brooklyn well and truly got a roasting as he gave his spin on a traditional Sunday dinner ‘Michelin style’ in his latest cooking vide

When he shared his video offering his take on the iconic English roast, Brooklyn’s fans were stunned by the sheer amount of butter and oil used for the meal, with some saying the meat was far too raw when he proudly plated it up.

Brooklyn started out by slathering the huge roasting joint with two slabs of butter, garlic and herbs before putting it in the oven.

Fans watching the video claimed that the amount he used was ‘reckless’ and even suggested that it could induce a heart attack.

Next up were the potatoes which were covered in oil and beef fat to make them ‘really crispy’, and plenty of Yorkshire puddings which collected a pool of oil in the centre.

Again, the pair turned to butter when cooking carrots mixing it with carrot juice to create a glaze over the vegetables.

After taking a bite, Brooklyn said: ‘Just like a have it in England. The best Sunday roast.’

But it seems some of his followers begged to differ.

One wrote: ‘I don’t think I would eat meat like that’, while another follower added: ‘Might as well bite the cow while it’s grazing.’

A third chimed: ‘Kind of rare’, while others were offended by the sheer amount of butter used in the meal.

One follower joked: ‘Heart attack on a plate’, while another added: ‘Way too much oil’.

However others liked the look of it, with one writing: ‘Incredible!!! Share the recipe.’

Brooklyn has largely been cooking for Instagram videos over the past few years as he shares basic tips with his followers on meals such as burgers and sandwiches.

But he admitted to Bustle in a recent interview: ‘I’m not a professional chef – at all.’

‘So much grease!’ After taking a bite, Brooklyn said: ‘Just like a have it in England. The best Sunday roast.’ But it seems some of his followers begged to differ

‘I’ve never said that. I never would say that. Obviously, my dad [retired footballer David Beckham] knew what he was doing at a very young age. I’ve only been doing cooking for not even three years.’

Brooklyn stressed: ‘It’s okay to be 25, 26, or even 30 and not know what you’re doing yet. You know what I mean?’

In December, Brooklyn treated his fans to another cooking tutorial – but he stuck to boiling a pot of plain spaghetti after whipping up a salad.

In the video, the star fried tuna steak with black and white sesame seeds and a lemon-and-egg glaze.

For his salad, he sliced up some cucumbers and mixed them with radish and plenty of dressing.

Brooklyn seems to have won a fan in the form of Serena Williams as the tennis player commented on his post asking: ‘Can I come over?’

Brooklyn recently starred in his own online Cookin’ With Brooklyn series, which saw him enlist a 62-person crew at the eye-watering cost of $100,000 to film him making a sandwich.

In one of the eight-minute episodes, Brooklyn, who has no professional training as a chef, shows his Instagram and Facebook followers how to make a bagel sandwich with a hash brown, coleslaw and fried sea bream

Proud: Brooklyn was delighted with how his Yorkshire puddings turned out

According to the New York Post, the video had a team of professionals on hand including a ‘culinary producer’ who approves the recipes, five camera operators and nine other producers.

Brooklyn Beckham’s cooking faux pas’

1. Brooklyn was slated by fans for his ‘raw’ meat while whipping up a Sunday dinner.

2. His salad and plain spaghetti left much to be desired in a silent cooking tutorial

3. He hired a film crew for $100,000 to film him making a sandwich

4. He required assistance with frying a hash brown

5. During a cooking segment on The Today Show, viewers poked fun at his humble breakfast sandwich

In the sandwich video, Brooklyn simply spread mayonnaise on the bagel and layered the ingredients on top.

He didn’t know how to fry fish and was also heard asking how to know when a hash brown is finished cooking.

In the video, he said: ‘I eat half the fish and then I like, mess it all up and put it in two loaves of bread with the fish, vinegar, salt, mushy peas.’

Speaking to the camera, he added: ‘Coleslaw gives sandwiches a different texture, like a crunchy texture.’

Just a couple of weeks later Brooklyn whipped up a humble fish-and-chip sandwich.

While he previously required assistance to fry a hash brown, the son of David and Victoria Beckham proved that he’d picked up more potato know-how as he began cutting up some potatoes and frying them in oil to make fresh hot chips.

He then salted up the fries, before making his own batter for two small fresh fish fillets, which he cooked in a pan.

Brooklyn then gently placed the crumbling fish fillets onto fresh bread, layered on the chips and finished with the sauce, before cutting the sandwich in half.

Brooklyn was also panned for another televised cooking stunt – making a simple breakfast sandwich during a food segment on The Today Show.

The budding photographer appeared on the US programme and shared his ‘recipe’ for an English breakfast sandwich, a dish that he ‘learned from his great-grandma’.

Explaining that he developed a passion for cooking while in lockdown, during which he began posting videos of himself whipping up different dishes on Instagram, he then ran hosts Hoda Kotb and Carson Daly through his sandwich-making process.
