Lady Frederick Windsor lands role as an aristocrat in Belgravia

Lady Frederick Windsor lands a plum role as an aristocrat in second series of Lord Julian Fellowes’ period drama Belgravia

Prince Harry, in his memoir Spare, claims that King Charles was keen for Meghan to continue working as an actress after she married into the Royal Family in 2018.

After all, her lucrative role in the hit U.S. TV series Suits had brought her fame and fortune.

Now it seems that another actress in the Firm is making the most of this royal loophole.

Sophie Winkleman, wife of Lord Frederick Windsor, the son of Prince Michael of Kent, has landed one of the lead roles in the second series of Lord (Julian) Fellowes’s drama, Belgravia, Richard Eden reports.

The 42-year-old is, I’m told, set to play the part of aristocrat Lady Rochester, which is one of the pivotal roles in the story.

I hear that Sophie Winkleman, wife of Lord Frederick Windsor (pictured together last year), the son of Prince Michael of Kent, has landed one of the lead roles in Belgravia

The new series will be set 25 years on from where the last one left off and will tell an entirely new story.

Lady Frederick Windsor, now a mother of two, is best known for her role as Big Suze in Channel 4 comedy Peep Show.

She married into the Royal Family in 2009, but Sophie was well accustomed to life in the spotlight, having been born into the media elite.

Her father Barry Winkleman was a successful publisher and her mother is the children’s author Cindy Black.

The TV presenter Claudia Winkleman is her half-sister from her father’s first marriage to the journalist Eve Pollard.

Belgravia first aired on ITV in early 2020, starring Philip Glenister and Tamsin Greig.

A second series was mooted, but Lord Fellowes opted instead to sell the programme to the U.S. streaming service Epix, where he will serve as an executive producer on the show.

Commenting on Ms Winkleman’s potential involvement in the series, Downton Abbey creator Fellowes told Richard Eden: ‘I think we’re very lucky. I have worked with Sophie before, on my version of the Titanic story, and I am a fan, but these choices are made by a group, led by our director, John Alexander.’

A representative for Sophie was unavailable for comment.
