Love Island’s Adam says he ‘hugged’ Jacques as he left villa: ‘We both know the score’

Love Island star Adam Collard has spoken out in his first interview since he and Paige Thorne were dumped from the Majorcan villa on Sunday 31 July.

In his exit chat, the 26 year old explained that he and Jacques O'Neill gave each other a hug before the rugby star's decision to leave the show in mid July.

Jacques, 23, had been coupled up with Paige, 24, for the majority of his time on the hit ITV dating programme, but things took a turn for the worse after his head was briefly turned during the Casa Amor episodes.

When bombshell Adam, 26, made his grand return to Love Island several days later, it all came to a head when Jacques' ex Gemma Owen, 19, said that star had been "proper s******g you off!"

Jacques then made the difficult decision to leave the villa, sharing a tearful goodbye with Paige before returning to the UK. Meanwhile, Adam swiftly swooped in and coupled up with Paige and the pair have gone from strength to strength ever since.

Now, Adam has revealed that he and Jacques "shook hands" and "hugged" before his exit as he shared: "I knew he liked Paige, I liked her as well – it could have been anyone and it would have been the same situation.

"But I just wanted to make sure he was OK first and that he was doing it for the right reasons and not doing it just because it was me."

He continued: "Don’t get me wrong, I knew I wanted to be with the girl he was with. At the same time, we gave each other a hug before he left. I went up and shook his hand."

"We both know the score, we both know what we signed up for and I wouldn’t even be surprised if we ended up being mates on the outside to be honest," he added.

Paige appeared head over heels for Jacques during their time together, but Casa Amor put a spanner in the works, which left her questioning their compatibility.

Speaking about their romance in her exit chat, Paige admitted: "It did cross my mind a little bit to leave with him, but things hadn’t been 100 per cent all the way through, and the fact that they weren’t was what made me think.

"The fact that I stayed and I gave 100 per cent to the experience and found something new and something more suited towards me just goes to show that everything happens for a reason."

Paige and Adam are now set to return to life back in the UK and have already made plans to see each other again.

The Welsh beauty explained: "Definitely we’re going strong. We have done since day one. We’ve already made plans.

"He’s coming to see me in Swansea and I’m going to Newcastle. We’re already talking about holidays and Christmas plans. I definitely see a future."
