Meghan recalls funny moment with Prince Philip at amazing Sandringham Christmas

Meghan andHarry’sNetflix documentary reveals a funny moment the Duchess of Sussex shared withPrince Philip at her “amazing” firstRoyal Christmas at Sandringham.

The Duchess, 41, spoke of her first festive season spent with The Firm in 2017 during the first half of the six-part docuseries, whichaired on the streaming platform on Thursday.

In the third episode, Meghan told how, at dinner, she was sat next to “H’s grandfather” – the late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Afterwards, she said she’d spoken to Harry about how well it had gone. She said: “I just thought it was so wonderful. And I was like, ‘Oh, we chatted and it was so great’. And I talked about this, and talked about this.

“He was like, ‘You had his bad ear. He couldn't hear anything you were saying’. I was like, ‘Oh. Well, I thought it went really well’."

Meghan also revealed how she spoke to her mum Doria on the phone about the Royal Family Christmas experience.

She said: “I remember so vividly the first Christmas at Sandringham. Calling my mum, and she's like, ‘How's it going?’ And I said, “Oh my gosh, it's amazing.'" And she added: "It's just like a big family like I always wanted. And there was just this constant movement and energy and fun.”

Elsewhere in the episode, the Duchess of Sussex spoke about her confusion over royal walkabouts – where members of The Firm greet the public on the streets.

She added: “I never saw pictures or videos of a walkabout. Like, 'what's a walkabout?'”

Meghan revealed that before her first walkabout in Nottingham, the zip broke on her outfit and it had to be safety pinned. Harry said: “The whole thing was just ridiculous.”

The Duke of Sussex added: "Everybody was just so excited and pleased and happy. And I think people looked at it and went, 'Wow, what a breath of fresh air'."

The release of the Netflix show came as Meghan and Harry were awarded for their fight against structural racism and mental health issues at the Ripple of Hope Gala on Tuesday.

At the ceremony in New York, Meganaddressed why she decided to open up about her suicidal thoughts during the couple’s2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, explaining she wanted people to know they were never alone.

She said: "It wasn't an easy decision to make, as you can imagine. When you've been through anything that's challenging, and everyone, especially in the past few years with lockdown and COVID, that spike in numbers of people having an experience they might not be voicing.

"We all need to, when we can, if we feel brave enough, just speak honestly about your own experience. It gives other people space and the courage to do the same, but more than that to really feel like you're not alone because I think that is often what can be the largest hindrance when you feel that way, you don't see a way out."

Meanwhile, theRoyal Family have been bracing themselves for the bombshells revealed in the documentary, with the Prince of Wales reportedlyready to challenge any claims he deems ‘wild’ throughout the six-part Netflix series.

The remainder of the six-part series – which drops next Thursday – will see the couple open up further about their lives and most notably, their experience during their time as senior working Royals in the UK, featuring everything fromPiers Morgan, whosaid he's "traumatised" by being "exploited" in it, to abizarre piece of footage that appears to be of Katie Price leaving court.
