Olivia Newton John’s husband pens heartfelt tribute to ‘most courageous woman’ he’s known
Dame Olivia Newton-John's heartbroken husband John Easterling has paid tribute to “the most courageous woman I have ever known”, following her death on Monday 8 August.
John announced via Facebook and Instagram that Olivia, best known for playing Sandy in the 1978 hit film Grease opposite John Travolta, had passed away peacefully aged 73 at her Southern California ranch in the early hours of Monday after battling cancer on and off for 30 years.
John has once again taken to Olivia's official Facebook page to post a heart-wrenching but uplifting tribute to Olivia, saying that she was “the most courageous woman I have ever known” and that her caring nature “almost eclipses what is humanly possible”.
Alongside a throwback snap of the pair smiling together, John wrote: "Olivia. Our love for each other transcends our understanding. Every day we expressed our gratitude for this love that could be so deep, so real, so natural. We never had to ‘work’ on it. We were in awe of this great mystery and accepted the experience of our love as past, present and forever.
Describing his wife, John said: "At Olivia’s deepest essence she was a healer using her mediums of song, of words, of touch. She was the most courageous woman I’ve ever known. Her bandwidth for genuinely caring for people, for nature and all creatures almost eclipses what is humanely possible.
"It is only the grace of God that has allowed me to share the depth and passion of her being for so long. In her most difficult times she always had the spirit, the humor, and the will power to move things into the light."
In an uplifting note, he wrote: "Even now as her soul soars, the pain and holes in my heart are healed with the joy of her love and the light that shines forward."
John went on to express his and his family's gratitude for "the vast ocean of love and support that has come our way."
He signed off his tribute, writing: "Onward Ho".
Olivia's beloved daughter Chloe Lattanzi paid tribute to her mother on Instagram as she posted a video of the pair recording a song together in 2021.
In the caption, she wrote: "You are my lighthouse mama. My safe place. My heart space. It has been my honor and continues to be my honor to be your baby and best friend. You are an angel on earth and everyone touched by you has been blessed. I love you forever my life giver, my teacher, my mama."
Since Olivia's death, celebrities such as Elton John, Dolly Parton, Sir Elton John and Kylie Minogue have all paid tribute to the icon, but perhaps one of the most poignant of all of them came from John Travolta who played Danny Zuko, the love interest of Olivia's character, Sandy, in the timeless musical, Grease.
Alongside a throwback snap of Olivia, John wrote: "My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible. I love you so much.
"We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever!
"Your Danny, your John!"
