Oscar nominations 2023: Rihanna receives her FIRST ever Academy Award nod for the song Lift Me Up in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

It is a good day for Rihanna.

The 34-year-old chart-topping singer has received her very first Oscar nomination in her long, Grammy winning career.

On Tuesday it was announced the beauty from Barbados was recognized in the Best Original Song category for her tune Lift Me Up from the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The song is Rihanna’s first original composition in many years, and the singer shares songwriting credit with director Ryan Coogler, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson and Nigerian singer Tems. 

Rihanna has already won seven Grammy awards. This is her first Oscar nod. 

Also on the list were Applause written by Diane Warren and sung by Sofia Carson from the film Tell It Like A Woman; Hold My Hand sung by Lady Gaga for Maverick: Top Gun; Naatu Naatu from Rahul Sipligunj, Kaala Bhairava, and M.M for the film RRR; and This Is A Life from David Byrne from the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Warren got her 14th Oscar nomination for Applause from the doc Tell It Like a Woman.

Not on the list is Taylor Swift, whose Carolina from Where the Crawdads Sing was on the shortlist of 15 films in contention to be nominated.
