Peter Andre says Emily’s ‘tough’ love helped him deal with crippling anxiety

Peter Andre has confessed his wife Emily’s “tough” love has been good for him as he opened up about how the doctor has helped him deal with his anxiety.

Peter, 49, and Emily, 33, tied the knot in 2015, and the singer says the having an NHS doctor for a wife has been positive for his mental health.

Writing exclusively in his latest column, Pete’s comments came as he discussed the Strep A outbreak which is affecting children across the UK.

He said: “It’s been very worrying as a parent to see the increasing number of children dying from Strep A. It’s horrific for any parent to have to go through that.

“It’s been comforting to hear reports from doctors saying that it is still very, very rare that a child will die, but any child’s death is a complete tragedy. I think we just have to keep an eye on our children and be very vigilant about the symptoms such as a rash and fever.”

He continued: “On another note, it is very helpful living with a doctor, but there are downsides, too.

"The good thing is that you know when anything serious happens she’ll know what to do, but the flip side is that you can’t be a hypochondriac because if you complain the answer is: ‘You’ll be fine, get on with it!’

“But that tough love has helped me quite a bit with my anxiety in the past. Sometimes when I’ve felt really anxious Emily knows exactly what to say and she’s helped me rationalise and understand things.”

The Andre household was recently hit by a sickness bug and Pete’s poor 15 year old daughter Princess has also been suffering from tonsillitis.

He added: “Last week I was struck down with a horrible sickness bug. It swept through the house and Millie and Princess also ended up being ill.

“Thankfully it was only a 24-hour thing and I feel much better and so does Millie, but poor Princess still isn’t very well.

“She’s also been struck down by tonsilitis, so she’s got a double whammy! I hope she’ll be feeling better soon.”

It’s been a rough few weeks for Princess, as the teenager also broke her finger at school and had to go to A&E.

Pete told us: “Just before I left for Jamaica Princess broke her finger! "It happened at school when she was doing sport. The ball hit her finger and snapped the bone.

“I was at work at the time and Emily took her to A&E. She said Princess was definitely going to need a splint, and she was right. But I guess she is a doctor!

“They were there for a few hours and Princess had a splint fitted.

"It was painful for her but thankfully she’s fine. Hopefully she’ll be healed in time for Christmas!”
