Peter Andre ‘will never get over’ heartbreak of losing his brother Andrew

Peter Andre has admitted he will “never get over” the heartbreak of losing his big brother Andrew.

The singer sadly lost his sibling to kidney cancer in 2012 after a 10-month battle.

Pete’s comments came as he discussed Chris Hemsworth's revelation that he discovered he is “eight to 10 times more likely” to develop Alzheimer’s disease after a genetic test.

Writing exclusively in his column, Pete said: “Chris Hemsworth announced that a genetic test he took revealed he is at higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

“It’s so hard to know if it’s something I would want to know. Losing my brother Andrew to cancer is something I’ve never gotten over, and would I want to know if I’m more likely to get cancer?

“I think if it’s something you could prevent then it would be great to know, but if it’s inevitable then maybe it’s best not to.

“Everybody has a different view. It’s very brave of Chris to talk about this and I wish him all the best.”

Thor star Chris, whose grandfather has Alzheimer’s, also revealed he was going to take a break from acting following his health news and called it his “biggest fear”.

The 39 year old is also taking “preventative steps” to starve off the development of the disease and said the news "really triggered something in me to want to take some time off".

He told Vanity Fair of the news: ““There was an intensity to navigating it. Most of us, we like to avoid speaking about death in the hope that we'll somehow avoid it.

"We all have this belief that we'll figure it out. Then to all of a sudden be told some big indicators are actually pointing to this as the route which is going to happen, the reality of it sinks in. Your own mortality."

Pete’s brother Mike announced the news of Andrew’s passing on Twitter at the time, writing: “My brother Andrew lost his battle with cancer in the early hours of Sunday morning.

“We were all with him, holding him, till his very last breath. Absolutely devastated. So I thank you all so much for your kind words and messages you’ve sent.

“I’m sure he is reading them with me…Thank you again.”

A representative for Pete said: “Peter is devastated. He was very, very, very close to his brother. This is the first family member Peter has experienced losing.”

They added that he “needs time to grieve”.
