Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could become ‘very unhappy and insignificant’ warns expert

Royal Author Tom Quinn has warned that Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan Markle, 41, could face the same fate as former King Edward VIII and his wife Wallis Simpson, and become “very unhappy” and “insignificant”.

The Gilded Youth author has drawn similarities between the two royal couples and, after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their experience, the expert says that the public will no longer be interested in them.

Harry and Meghan have shared their experiences through documentaries, books, and interviews.

And now expert Tom Quinn has said that Harry and Meghan could be following in the same footsteps as former King Edward VIII and his wife Wallis Simpson, after their intention to marry caused a constitutional crisis.

The author said that after King Edward VIII abdicated the throne, married his wife Wallis Simpson, and moved to France, the couple became “desperately unhappy”.

After Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals and opened up about their turbulent experience as part of the Firm, expert Tom said the couple risks a similar fate.

"When you're not saying that anymore, and you can't make any more films and interviews about how badly you've been treated, what then, what do you do?”, expert Tom told the Express.

"My fear is that Harry will become like Edward VIII and Meghan will become like Mrs Simpson. They lived in this beautiful house in France, but we know they were desperately unhappy – Edward VIII was a bit like King Lear, where he gives away all his power, but somehow thinks he can still exercise power through his children. And I think Edward VIII, when he abdicated and went to live in France, thought he would still be an important figure,” expert Tom Quinn continued.

"And he was for a little while, in the same way that Meghan and Harry are kind of significant now because there's so much coverage and commentary about them.

"But that will fade and, unless they can escape all this negative stuff and find something positive that people are interested in, they will become insignificant in the way that Edward VIII became insignificant and very unhappy."

However, Harry and Meghan differ from former King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson as they do not need permission from the monarch to return to the UK, although they have only done so a few times since moving to the US.

Harry and Meghan have spoken out about their negative experiences with the Firm on numerous occasions, including an interview with Oprah Winfrey, a Netflix documentary titled Harry and Meghan, and a memoir by Prince Harry titled Spare.
