Prince Harry Makes Surprise Appearance in London For Associated Newspapers Court Hearing

Just weeks after speaking at BetterUp’s Uplift summit in San Francisco, CA, Prince Harry made a surprise appearance at London’s High Court on March 27 to attend the first day of a legal case against Associated Newspapers Ltd. The Duke of Sussex appeared to be in good spirits as he smiled and waved to people gathered outside.

According to People, several notable figures, including Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley, are suing the publisher of Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday for illegal information gathering. The hearing is expected to last four days and will consider legal arguments from both sides, with a judge ultimately ruling whether the case should be taken to trial. Per People, Associated Newspapers are arguing that the case should be thrown out.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Harry has taken legal action against Associated Newspapers. Back in July 2022, the prince snagged an early victory in his libel lawsuit against the publication company in regard to a Feb. 20 article published by the Daily Mail about his fight for police protection in the UK.

Harry’s return to London marks his first time in the UK since he and wife Meghan Markle attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022. While reps for Harry did not immediately respond to POPSUGAR’s request for comment, according to People, the duke reportedly informed both King Charles III and Prince William that he would be in the UK for the court proceedings.

Charles’s coronation is set to take place at Westminster Abbey in London on May 6. A spokesperson for the Sussexes revealed to The Times on March 4 that Harry has “recently revealed email correspondence from His Majesty’s office regarding the coronation.” However, it’s still unclear whether Harry and Markle plan to attend. “An immediate decision on whether the Duke and Duchess will attend will not be disclosed by us at this time,” the spokesperson said. May 6 also happens to be Prince Archie’s fourth birthday.
