Stanley Tucci admits his children aren't adventurous eaters

‘We’ve raised them completely wrong’: Stanley Tucci admits his children have ‘a diet like Fagin is their father’ and he has to beg them to try mashed potato

He’s a renowned foodie who has released his own cookbooks and embarked on a culinary tour of Italy for an Emmy nominated TV series.

But Stanley Tucci hasn’t managed to pass on his adventurous palette to his two young children.

Speaking in a new interview, the Hollywood actor, who lives in London with his wife Felicity Blunt, 42, and their children Matteo, seven, and Emilia, four, quipped that his kids have ‘a diet like Fagin is their father’.

‘We raised them wrong’: Stanley Tucci may be a renowned foodie but he hasn’t managed to pass on his adventurous palette to his two young children

‘My kids should be such great adventurous eaters and they’re not,’ Stanley, 61, told Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE’s weekly podcast Dish.

‘We’ve raised them completely wrong. They’re lovely people, but we’ve been really bad about that,’ he explained.

‘So, you make the same five f****** things every week, and you’re like, really? “I want my sausages.” All right, you know, have sausages.’

‘And then it’s like, “Would you like to try some mashed potatoes?” Who doesn’t like mashed potato? I mean, they have a diet like Fagin is their father.’

The actor and his literary agent wife Felicity have lived in London since they met through her sister, Stanley’s Devil Wears Prada co-star Emily Blunt.

As well as being dad to Matteo and Emilia, Stanley also has three children from his first marriage to Kathryn Spath-Tucci, who died from breast cancer in 2009 – Camilla, 19, and Nicolo and Isabel, 21.

During lockdown Stanley went viral with his cocktails videos shot in his family home, where he demonstrated how to make his favourite tipples.

His fans were equally enamored by Stanley’s choice of attire for his online videos as they were by the recipes.

‘I do wear tracksuit bottoms, nice ones. But then before dinner I always change and put something nice on,’ Stanley explained of his wardrobe choices.

‘ I remember people got so excited when I was wearing a belt during lockdown, when I did the cocktail videos. And people were like, “He’s wearing a belt.”‘

‘And I was like, well, yeah, of course I’m wearing a f****** belt, you know? It’s like I have pants on, otherwise the pants would fall down. It’s so weird.’

While he loves to host cocktail parties at home in London, Stanley also told the podcast how ‘weird’ he finds the drinking culture in Los Angeles, where he used to live.

‘Whenever I would be out in LA, when I first started going there almost forty years ago, you go to LA, they take you out to lunch,’ he explained.

‘You go, “great, I’ll have a glass of wine.” And you saw them go like- “does he have a drinking problem?”‘

He laughed: ‘I have no problem drinking at all! Weird, that culture.’

Dish, hosted by Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett is available on all podcast providers now.
