Stephen Mulhern divides fans after playing ‘cruel prank’ on ASDA worker

Stephen Mulhern has left fans divided in their reactions to a cheeky prank he carried out on an ASDA worker recently.

The presenter, 45, uploaded a video on his Twitter account showing him visiting an ASDA store, where he decided to play a joke on a woman on duty at the Customer Service desk.

Stephen was seen in the clip telling the lady that he had been blocked in with his camera crew while they had been filming a segment at the retail store, and needed help in finding the vehicle owner responsible.

The Britain’s’ Got Talent spin-off host proceeded to give the worker his number plate, spelling out a rude sexual request instead, unbeknownst to the worker.

The helpful employee was then seen in the video reading aloud the cheeky phrase in a Customer Service announcement on loud speaker, as she continued to be filmed unaware.

Following the announcement, Stephen told the worker: "That's great, thank you so much. Have a good day."

While some fans regarded the prank as “genius”, others called out Stephen for being distasteful, as they told the presenter to “leave the woman alone”, after uploading the video.

Viewers of the video took to the comment section to give their mixed reactions.

“What a cruel prank to play on that kind lady. And what a waste of her time. This isn't one bit funny," one angry viewer wrote.

A second complained: "Stephen mate, maybe try not to belittle customer service people. It's fun and games for you but won't be for her.”

"What a waste of her time. Making fun of the lady x," a third added, as someone else said: "Aw poor lady @asda give her a pay rise please!!"

Some followers came to the defence of Stephen and his cheeky prank, as one person commented: "It's only a bit of a laugh! Relax everyone”

A second fan wrote: "She was probably in on it from the start and could also have signed a consent form. It’s a bit of harmless fun."

“Shocking that so many people have lost their sense of humour,” a third stated.

Another shared: “Honestly, the comments. I don’t know what’s going on with people being so awful when clearly it was just a bit of fun. I’d have laughed if I’d been pranked like that”.
