Strictly Come Dancing’s Helen Skelton suffers a wardrobe blunder during the semi-final as her heel RIPS her dress while performing her first routine

Helen Skelton suffered a wardrobe blunder on Sunday’s Strictly Come Dancing semi-final when her heel got caught on her dress. 

The TV presenter, 39, gave it her all as she danced the Argentine Tango with Gorka Marquez to Here Comes The Rain Again by Eurythmics. 

But luckily, Helen was able to laugh off the slight mishap when her stiletto ripped the hem of her midnight blue sequinned gown.

Speaking to the former Blue Peter star and her professional partner afterwards, Tess Daley asked: ‘Is your dress okay? I know it got caught a little in your heel?’

The hem of Helen’s glittering gown was frayed at the edges with a second accidental split up the back. 

The duo went on to score 37 from the judges, as they were awarded a nine from Craig, 10 from Motsi and an eight from Shirley, while Anton awarded them 10.

Elsewhere in the show, the five remaining celebrities taking to the dance floor with two performances with their professional partners.

The show was moved from its usual Saturday slot due to Qatar World Cup scheduling while the results show will air on Monday night on BBC One at 8:15pm.

Wildlife presenter Hamza Yassin, 32, topped the leaderboard with his professional dance partner Jowita Pryzstal, 28, scoring 76 points while actor Will Mellor, 46, placed last with 70 points, with the actor branding his first dance of the night ‘too aggressive’.

Wildlife presenter Hamza and his professional partner Jowita took to the dance floor for the third performance with the Charleston. 

Giving his comments afterwards, Craig said: ‘That was full of detail. Those lifts were absolutely crazy spectacular. You were very brave, darling, wearing a kilt in a Charleston.’

Motsi said: ‘You were so alive, present and you really had everything in control. You guys have lifted the levels of lifts in Strictly. Everything was on point. Guys, exceptional.’

Anton told them: ‘You brought everything. That was amazing. Well done.’

Hamza and Jowita performed the Waltz for their second dance of the evening.

Giving her comments, Motsi said: ‘For me, definitely, without a doubt. For me, you are the man of the night. Actually, we more of Hamza… more people like Hamza. Beautiful, soft, grounded, authentic. For Jowita and you, to watch, is just a gift.’ 

Moved: Hamza was moved to tears after he was awarded the scores, with Jowita telling him: ‘What made me the proudest teacher in the world is you always go there on the night, and you go with your heart’

Meanwhile, Actor Will and his professional partner Nancy Xu were the final of the five couples to take to the dance floor with their first dance of the evening, with the pair dancing the Pasodoble.

Craig awarded a seven while Motsi gave them nine, Shirley awarded a seven Anton gave them nine. They scored a total of 32 out of 40. 

For their second dance of the evening, they chose to perform their couple’s choice as Will paid homage to Manchester. 

Anton told Will: ‘In 20 years of Strictly Come Dancing, we’ve never had Manchester week. You smashed the place up, well done you.’

Craig said: ‘I was slightly nervous this was going to be like a dad doing this type of dancing. It went very well.’

Craig awarded the pair a score of nine while Motsi scored them 10, Shirley gave them nine and Anton scored them 10. They achieved a total of 38 out of a possible 40.
