The Welsh actress, 52, showed off some Gothic glamour as she posed alongside some of the cast in director Tim Burton’s spin-off series, Wednesday.

She follows in the footsteps of the original serene matriarch from the 1964 show, Carolyn Jones – who died aged 53 in 1983 – as well as Angelica Houston, 71, who appeared in two Addams Family films in the Nineties.

Catherine stars in Wednesday alongside Hollywood star Luis Guzman, 65, as husband Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as their hapless son Pugsley and Jenna Ortega, 19, as the Netflix show’s main character – daughter Wednesday.

The series will focus on Wednesday as a high school student.

Back in September, Catherine revealed she was “really looking forward” to shooting the show with Edward Scissorhands and Nightmare Before Christmas director Burton.

It’s his TV directorial debut.

She said: “I’m so excited to be working with the great Tim Burton, and the make-up and costume designer who I’ve worked with before, and with Luis Guzman, who I worked with on Traffic.”

“It’s going to be a great camaraderie. I’m really looking forward to it.”

The Addams Family spin-off will see Wednesday try to thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years before – all while navigating her new boarding school for outcasts.

Charlize Theron played Morticia Addams in a voice-only role in a 2019 animated movie and all the screen offshoots are based on a series of cartoons in The New Yorker magazine, first drawn by US artist Charles Addams in 1938.
