BBC’s The Traitors came to an end on Thursday evening as Hannah Byczkowski, Aaron Evans and Meryl Williams won the whopping prize fund of f £101,050, split evenly between them.
It was a close call for the three winners after Wilfred Webster almost made it before being caught out as he and fellow traitor Kieran Tompsett turned on one another.
Kieran was first to be voted out by the other four contestants in the final, but left with a cryptic ‘parting gift’ as he revealed to the others that he thought Wilf was a traitor.
Fans took to social media to rejoice over the end result as they dubbed the show the ‘TV event of 2022’, with many adding that Kieran was a ‘legend’ for giving the others a hint about who the remaining traitor was.

During the tense finale, traitors Wilf and Kieran turned on one another in the roundtable as they both voted for each other to be banished.
Kieran received votes from all other players, meaning he was voted off and revealed as a traitor.
But despite Wilf escaping banishment, Kieran’s vote left the other three contestants wondering if they could really trust the remaining traitor – as Wilf pleaded for trust.
Despite a teary display from him, it wasn’t quite enough to convince everyone as Aaron and Hannah both voted to send someone else home.
And when it came to the vote, It was all over for Wilf, who then shockingly (to his fellow contestants) revealed that he was a traitor while leaving the other three lost for words.

‘I can’t even put into words, how happy I am at the moment. I’m so f***ing happy for you guys. I have found it so hard. Everyday I tried to play as a faithful and enjoy my time here,’ said a teary Wilf.
‘You are a massive d***head, but I love you,’ said Aaron as the three finalists forgave him for lying – thanking him for keeping them in the competition.
And as the final result was revealed, viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts as they gushed over the popular show.
‘BEST SHOW OF THE YEAR,’ wrote one fan, while another penned that it was ‘the TV event of 2022’.

And reacting to traitors Wilf and Kieran’s stand off, many were on the same side as the latter- dubbing him a ‘legend’ for giving the others a hint that Wilf wasn’t genuine.
‘I can’t get over the PARTING GIFT line looooool. Sorry but Kieran is a legend for that,’ said a viewer.
While another said: ‘The @bafta TV moment of the year goes to… ‘the split second pause between Wilf smiling and him saying “traitor”‘.

But some eagle-eyed viewers picked up on a glance between Kieran and Hannah during the final – suggesting that he gave the identity of the remaining traitor (Wilf) away.
Before leaving, Kieran can be seen looking at Hannah, moving his eyes to Wilf and then back to Hannah – with many taking this as a suggestion that he was trying to warn her with his eyes.
‘Kieran gave Hannah a hint when he stood, directing her to Wilf with his gaze. It ruined the game for me, shouldn’t be allowed,’ wrote one fan to Twitter, as others agreed.
Earlier in the episode, the final kicked off with the five finalists enjoyed one last breakfast together as Hannah described the show as ‘One of the best experiences of my life’.

And traitor Kieran was out to win as he explained: ‘I think I deserve it and I’m gonna pull out all the stops to be there at the end’.
But before finding out who would take the prize, there was an extra-special final challenge in store for the contestants.
‘Guys, what can you hear?’ asked Aaron as a helicopter flew over their heads before host Claudia Winkleman said they were in for the ‘ride of their lives’.

Last hurrah! But before finding out who would take the prize, there was an extra-special final challenge in store for the contestants
Aaron, Meryl, Wilf, Hannah and Kieran then got into the chopper as it flew over the beautiful Scottish Highlands.
Claudia was waiting for them as the helicopter landed, sharing that they would add £20,000 into the standing £81,050 prize fund if they successfully completed the challenge.
Volunteering themselves as the two strongest swimmers, Aaron and Hannah were then told they had to get back into the helicopter and jump out of it into the below loch.

Back on land, Wilf, Meryl and Kieran were tasked with navigating ten miles of open water in a raft-style speed boat to find the £20,000 – picking up their fellow contestants from the water on the way.
They had 20 minutes and four stops to find different sums of money adding up to the total, with the team digging through sand, solving riddles and being tested physically during the journey.
And the quartet managed to smash the challenge and find the full £20K, taking the prize fund up to £101,050.

The celebrations were short-lived as the contestants began to strategise on the way home, with Wilf shockingly revealing that he was planning on turning against fellow traitor Kieran.
‘Would I feel guilty if I was playing a game of poker and I just won a £100K, no I wouldn’t. But it’s hard when emotions and friendships are involved,’ said Wilf.
And the others followed suit with their suspicians of Kieran too, as Hannah explained: ‘It has to be Kieran. He has guilty written all over his face. If it’s any of the other three then they deserve the £100K because I believe every word they say.’
‘It has to be Kieran. I don’t believe it’s Wilf and it can’t be Meryl,’ echoed Aaron.
But Kieran wasn’t prepared to be betrayed, as he shared to the camera: ‘If you’re gonna screw me over, I’m gonna return the favour’.
Tense: When the time came, the four finalists had to make a decision on whether to end the game and assume Wilf was a faithful or banish him – choosing the latter

Finally returning to the last roundtable, it was time for the tense finale for the final five.
Still convinced that Wilf was faithful, Meryl explained that she felt sad seeing him having to defend himself when accused of being a traitor because she ‘knew he was faithful’.
‘You can all put my name on the cards and I will stand up there. I can go out here with my head held high. I know people have been going around today and speaking about me. I would like to speed up the process please Claudia,’ said Kieran.
It was then time for the vote, with Kieran turning the knife as he turned on fellow traitor Wilf – holding his name up and sharing: ‘Parting gift’.

The other four contestants all voted for Kieran – meaning he was banished from the castle and was left to reveal to the remaining contestants that he was a traitor.
‘So, we were right. Are we done? I don’t know,’ said a confused Meryl.
The final four were then left to make a decision on whether there was still a traitor in their midst, or whether they were done.
Talk then turned to Wilf after Kieran’s revelation, leaving him forced to defend himself as he insisted that he is a faithful – raising his voice as he said: ‘I swear on everything I am not a traitor. How do you think I feel? I’m about to have money taken away from me for no reason. I’ll swear on anyones life’.
‘I promise you, I don’t even know how to say it, I am 100% faithful. I’m asking you to trust me over Kieran,’ pleaded Wilf as he began to tear up.
But Aaron wasn’t fully convinced, questioning why Kieran would vote for Wilf before leaving if he wasn’t a traitor.
The time then came to make their decision, with Claudia asking each finalist to make their vote secretly.

Meryl chose to end the game, meaning she believed that Wilf was faithful.
But Hannah and Aaron both chose to banish again as they revealed that they didn’t fully trust Wilf and couldn’t take the risk.
They then voted again to decide on who they would banish, with Hannah, Aaron and Meryl all voting to banish traitor Wilf.
After a teary but happy goodbye, Hannah, Aaron and Meryl all celebrated winning with host Claudia as they voted to end the game now and finally revealed that they were all faithful.
Admitting she felt like an ‘intruder’ after winning, Hannah explained that the prize made all of her dreams ‘come true’, but didn’t reveal what specifically she would be spending the money on.
‘This prize is a life changing amount of money. It’s an opportunity many people will never have, and I feel so lucky and happy and just completely grateful to the whole process. And grateful to anyone that got me on there. And just full of love and happiness,’ she shared.
While fellow winner Aaron admitted that winning ‘hadn’t sunk in yet’ as he stuck true to his word and share that he would be putting down a chunk of it for a deposit on his mum’s house.

Finally, Meryl explained: ‘I think I might be the first person with my condition to win a reality show which I’m so delighted about. Overall, I can’t believe it. I still genuinely can’t believe it. I feel very grateful. I feel ecstatic. It feels very surreal.’
Adding that she might opt for a career change, the current Call Centre Agent added that she’s also hoping to travel, using the newfound money as a ‘safety blanket to try new things’.
The show, hosted by Claudia, sees a small number of players, who have been secretly selected to be a Traitor, take on their Faithful counterparts in a battle to win the prize fund.
Players are then eliminated when The Traitors meet in secret and decide to ‘murder’ one of The Faithful. The next morning, when the group meet for breakfast, the ‘murdered’ player does not appear.
And this week saw the fall and rise of the Traitor team as Amanda Lovett was banished by her fellow contestants and Keiran was recruited to move from a Faithful to traitor.
It comes after faithful Maddy Smedley was eliminated from the castle in Wednesday’s episode, as Wilf and Kieran managed to avoid being found out.
Recently speaking about his shock at reaching the final undiscovered, Wilf said: ‘It’s very surreal, I didn’t think I’d get this far at one point. When all the fingers were pointing at me, I never thought I’d make it this far’
However he admitted the taking on the role hasn’t been easy and it’s ‘backstabbing’ his new friends had been a ‘struggle’.
‘I really didn’t think it would be as hard as it was to murder people, or watch people get banished knowing that you’re the one that should be banished’.

While Hannah, who has never questioned pal Wilf’s loyalty, revealed she had ‘no idea’ how she made it to the final and was convinced she’d last ‘about five minutes’.
‘I think you spend so much time second guessing and game planning, trying to get a game plan together and then that all goes out the window and you’re just happy to be there another day!’
Faithful Aaron has found fingers constantly pointed at him by other players and accused daily of being a traitor.
When asked if he thought he would make it to the final he exclaimed: ‘No way! Are you joking?’
‘No, I did not think I’d make it through to the final five. I thought I’d go out after day three and that’s before I even knew what would happen in day three’.
Meryl – who has also been wrongly accused of being a traitor – said making it to the final was a real ‘pinch me’ moment.
‘I never expected it in a million years. When I first went onto the show I just wanted to try and get through. I kept just thinking one more day, one more day. I never ever thought I was going to get this far, for sure. It feels surreal’.
Meanwhile, Kieran found himself dramatically booted from the show in episode one alongside Amos, before later returning as a faithful ahead of joining the traitor ranks alongside Wilf.
Recalling the early exit he said: ‘And I was getting prepared to get stick left, right and centre for it!’
‘It was the most brutal twist in a game show ever and it set the tone of the show to perfection – it got everyone hooked from the first episode. But being on the end of it was hard’.
