Wimbledon quarter-finalist Nick Kyrgios charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has been charged with assault, police have confirmed.

The 27 year old’s former girlfriend Chiara Passari is reported to be the victim of the alleged assault, which is said to have taken place last year, according to The Canberra Times.

Nick, who born and raised in Canberra, Australia, is due to appear in court next month. He is currently through to the quarter-finals of this year’s Wimbledon tournament.

The tennis ace faces the possibility of spending up to two years in jail if found guilty of the alleged assault, which reportedly saw him grab his ex partner.

Police in Australia Capital Territory addressed the charge in a statement released on Tuesday, which read: "ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021.”

Nick’s barrister Jason Moffett has said that his client is aware of the charge and is taking the accusation “very seriously”.

"It's in the context of a domestic relationship," Mr Moffatt told The Canberra Times.

"The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously.

"Given the matter is before the court … he doesn't have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time we'll issue a media release."

OK! has contacted Nick Kyrgios' representatives for comment.

Nick and Chiara first started dating in 2020 but split last year.

The tennis star has since moved on in a new relationship with blogger Costeen Hatzi and appeared to confirm that the couple were engaged in May as he posted a ring emoji with the caption: “My babe we had a great week we move forward together.”

Nick has posted several loved-up photos with Costeen over the past few months following his split with Chiara as he has described Costeen as “my world” and “my everything” on social media.

The tennis pro is scheduled to face Cristian Garin in tomorrow’s quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
