Zoe Ball replaced on Radio 2 slot as she issues health update

Zoe Ball has been replaced on her BBC Radio 2 show by Vernon Kay.

Vernon, 48, is stepping in for Zoe for the next few days as she’s unfortunately contracted Covid-19.

Sharing a health update via Twitter, Zoe, 52, penned alongside a selfie of her with Vernon and Rylan Clark: “so i’ve got covid… but good news is ya man @vernonkay is looking after y’all @BBCRadio2”.

She went on to promise that she’ll be “back soon”.

Vernon also confirmed the news, writing on his own Twitter page: “Couple of mornings on @BBCRadio2 coming up!!”

Zoe has since been inundated with warm wishes from her listeners and celebrity pals alike.

“Get well soon Zoe! Hope it isn’t too bad!!” wrote BBC Sport’s Sanny Rudravajhala, as Rylan said: “Nooooooooo”.

“Hope you’re ok lovely,” said Louise Redknapp alongside a heart emoji, while a fan penned: “Hope you’re feeling better soon! X”.

Others continued: “Get well soon Zoe, and take care of yourself in the meanwhile by not trying too much too quickly; Vern will look after things for you.”

Echoing similar sentiments, someone else said: “Zoe, I hope you are feeling better soon, rest up, drink plenty and know we are all wishing you well. Vernon have a great time”.

While Vernon is no stranger to hosting radio, the last time Zoe had to step away from her presenting duties due to illness, her colleagues Richie Anderson and Ken Bruce covered for her.

Known for keeping her avid listeners up to date on her life, Zoe tweeted at the time: “Apologies for this morning gang, tyre went on the way in to work. I was so keen not miss the show, dashed in and hadn't quite realised the effect it'd had on me.

"I'm ok. thanks for the lovely messages. big thanks to Richie and Ken for stepping in. will be back tomorrow xx."

Zoe’s recent positive Covid test is thought to be the second time the star has contracted the viral infection after the illness caused her to drop out of her Children In Need presenting duties last March.

Alesha Dixon went on to replace the 52 year old, with Zoe going on to say she “owed” the Britain’s Got Talent judge for stepping in for her.

Vernon wasn’t available to step in for Zoe at the time as he’d already been asked to replace Joel Dommett, who had also tested positive for Covid-19.
