41 years ago (1981) The eight-person crew of the RNLI Penlee lifeboat, Solomon Browne, were lost as they battled to save the stricken Union Star coaster after its engines failed off the south-west coast of Cornwall in hurricane force winds.

The eight crew members of the Union Star were also lost. The disaster remains the last time the RNLI lost an entire crew in action.

Six years ago (2016) Our front page revealed 12 people had been killed and more than 50 injured in a terrorist attack at a Christmas market in Berlin, Germany.

One of the victims was the truck’s original driver Lukasz Urban, who was found shot dead in the passenger seat.

The attacker, Anis Amri, fled the scene and was killed in a shootout with police in Milan, Italy, four days later.
