Ellie Goulding shut down long-standing rumors that she cheated on Ed Sheeran with One Direction band member Niall Horan many years ago.
Goulding addressed the unfounded rumors when a netizen commented on her TikTok video from last week where she was dancing to Prep’s cover of Harry Styles’ song, “As It Was.”
“Quick boob check then we’re birthday groovin 🤣🖤,” she captioned the video posted Saturday.
One TikToker decided to get personal with Goulding and accuse her of being unfaithful.
“Can’t believe u cheated on Ed with Niall, but slay [for real,]” the commenter wrote below Goulding’s video.
But the “Lights” singer swiftly shut down the accusation, writing back, “False!!!!! But also slay.”
Goulding, 36, and Sheeran, 31, first sparked dating rumors when they were spotted holding hands while seated in the audience together at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.
While Goulding denied that they were a couple, Sheeran reportedly insinuated they were dating in an interview that year before admitting that things were over as quickly as they began.
“I mean, normal people don’t hold hands if they’re just friends,” Sheeran told Washington radio station Click 98.9 (via Us Weekly) at the time, before adding, “It was going on. And now it’s not.”

But the long-standing speculation that Goulding cheated on the “Shape of You” singer swirled when he dropped his 2014 hit song “Don’t.” His lyrics seemed to imply that he had been cheated on and many fans gathered that Goulding was the cheater in question.
“And I never saw him as a threat (you bastard) / Until you disappeared with him to have sex. of course / It’s not like we were both on tour / We were staying on the same f–king hotel floor/ And I wasn’t looking for a promise or commitment / But it was never just fun, and I thought you were different,” Sheeran sings in his song.
An English publication alleged that the lyrics were about Goulding cheating on Sheeran with Horan.
“I never let it slip [who the song was about],” Sheeran told Entertainment Weekly in May 2015. “What happened was one of the newspapers in England just printed that it was confirmed when it never was.”
Goulding and Horan, now 29, reportedly had a rumored fling that year and sparked dating rumors when they were seen looking cozy at V Festival during a Kings of Leon set.
But Goulding has finally shut down the years-long chatter thanks to her straightforward response ok TikTok.
Sheeran has since moved on with Cherry Seaborn, whom he initially met in high school. He confirmed they tied the knot in 2019 and share two daughters: Lyra Antarctica, 2, and 9-month-old Jupiter.
Meanwhile, Goulding married Caspar Jopling in 2019 and share a 1-year-old son, Arthur Ever Winter.
