On September 14, 2022 several members of the Royal Family gathered at Westminster Hall for the service for the reception of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin. Body language expert Louise Mahler commented on what she described as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s seemingly “incongruent” behaviour on this occasion.

The Royal Family were pictured at the service for the reception of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin at Westminster Hall on September 14.

King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Sir Timothy Lawrence, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, Sophie the Duchess of Edinburgh, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were all present.

However, according to one body language expert, Harry and Meghan acted rather differently to the other royals.

The pair could be spotted holding hands as they walked during the procession with the coffin, while no other royals were seen doing this.

Speaking about this in a video for Sunrise, Louise Mahler said: “The hand-holding in Westminster hall was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen.”

Her reason for saying this was that it was “totally incongruent with everybody else” in terms of “distancing and placement”.

Louise continued: “And I would have thought that people don’t hold hands in a situation like that.”

The expert claimed that by holding hands Harry and Meghan “altered the spacing”.

Louise observed that Harry had placed his hand “over the top of Meghan’s”.

And the body language expert questioned whether there may have been a subconscious motivation behind this.

She said: “I’m questioning whether Harry has an unconscious need to hold her back in some way.”

The body language expert revealed that she has always thought this was a gesture of “protection”.

However, the fact that it “never alters” may suggest that Harry is “holding her back”, the expert claimed.

The body language expert also claimed that while the couple were stood next to each other, Meghan stepped out slightly in front. She called this “unusual”.

Later in the video, Louise spoke about the royals’ distinct walks, with Louise claiming that Meghan likes to bring her elbows into the side of the body with her palms out and legs crossing over.

She noticed that her legs also cross over when she walks, claiming this is “more of a model walk” than Kate’s “neutral” stride.

Louise claimed that Meghan’s model walk makes her more “unstable”.

She commented again on Harry’s “grasp” on Meghan’s hand, “holding her up”.
