The Three’s Company alum and her husband Alan Hamel (pictured in 2018) have been vocal about the ways in which they take steps to keep themselves looking and feeling young

The actress turned health guru came to fame with John Ritter on Three’s Company which debuted in 1976; also seen here are Joyce DeWitt, Norman Fell, Richard Kline and Audra Lindley

‘Those three words: ‘you have cancer’ rock your world because all of a sudden you’re faced with your own mortality,’ Suzanne recalled. ‘So, it forced me, early on, to take charge of my health ’cause I didn’t want to do it their way.’

At the time, Suzanne made the controversial decision to eschew traditional medical protocol and refused chemotherapy. However, she did get lumpectomy and undergo radiation.

Suzanne’s vocal opinions on topics like hormone replacement therapy, toxins and alternative cancer treatments went on to cause her a fair amount of backlash and criticism over the years.

Still, she’s pushed forward with her battle to age gracefully, penning over 20 books over the year and building a successful wellness brand.

Here, FEMAIL takes a look at how Suzanne has maintained her youthful appearance by favoring organic ingredients, homecooked meals and plenty of quality time with her husband Alan Hamel, 86.

Focus on fresh food: Adopt an organic-only diet full of herbs, omega-3 oils and home-cooked meals

The star – pictured with her granddaughter Camelia – famously only eats organic produce and loves to add fresh herbs and spices to her meals because they are like ‘medicine’ (Pictured in 2022)

The star – pictured in 1979 – has said she ingests omega-3 oils like olive, flax, or coconut oil, to help keep cell membranes pliable, ‘allowing air and water to flow through and flush chemicals that enter the body from food or the environment.’

When it comes to keeping yourself looking young on the outside, Suzanne insists the key is watching what you are putting into your body.

EAT ORGANIC

Eat only organic and also used fresh herbs that are like ‘medicine.’

‘Bringing these antioxidants into your food helps eliminate free radicals.’

USE HERBS

Suzanne likes fresh herbs and spices, like rosemary, thyme, tarragon, mint, turmeric, chives, cayenne, cumin and cinnamon.

INGEST OILS

And she said to ingest omega-3 oils like olive, flax, or coconut oil, to help keep cell membranes pliable, ‘allowing air and water to flow through and flush chemicals that enter the body from food or the environment.’

COOK AT HOME

One of her favorite dishes is organic chicken with olive oil, rosemary and thyme. She adds sea salt.

LISTEN TO YOUR BODY

‘We have to learn the language of our bodies: Itching, b***ing, lack of sleep, sweating, bloating, forgetfulness, being dried up; that’s the body talking.’

BALANCE HORMONES

‘You can’t sleep unless you balance your hormones. When you don’t have hormones, you don’t care about sex. I mean, you can do it, but you’d rather have a smoothie. I didn’t like being there. I used to really like it, and I had three miserable years.’

Speaking about her diet plan in the debut issue of Park Magazine, the Step By Step actress confirmed that she only eats organic produce.

She also stated she ensure to add fresh herbs and spices to her meals because they are like ‘medicine’ – citing that rosemary, thyme, tarragon, mint, turmeric, chives, cayenne, cumin and cinnamon are her favorites.

Suzanne explained: ‘It’s as though nature knew we’d be bombarded with free radicals and chemicals coming into our bodies all the time. ‘Bringing these antioxidants into your food helps eliminate free radicals.’

And she said to ingest omega-3 oils like olive, flax, or coconut oil, to help keep cell membranes pliable, ‘allowing air and water to flow through and flush chemicals that enter the body from food or the environment.’

One of her favorite dishes is organic chicken with olive oil, rosemary and thyme with a sprinkle of sea salt.

‘When I eat this meal, I think it’s like healthy medicine I’m eating,’ she said. ‘It’s just so delicious.’ In her fifties Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer and that made her turn to clean eating.

‘I have to say that since I embraced health, I have never enjoyed life more,’ the northern California native shared.

‘I like the way I look. I like the way I feel. I like my energy. I have wisdom. I have perspective, and I can tell you that aging can be so incredible if you know how to approach it.’

The ThighMaster queen added it takes work as she stated: ‘Aging is amazing. Aging is something you should aspire to and look forward to and want.’

But a healthy life is crucial as she continued: ‘It’s about health; about shifting your thinking and understanding what it is that’s making us sick and how we can combat it.’

And when women over 50 feel achy, Suzanne said listen and heal it.

‘We have to learn the language of our bodies: Itching, b***ing, lack of sleep, sweating, bloating, forgetfulness, being dried up; that’s the body talking.

‘Listen to your body. You can’t sleep unless you balance your hormones. When you don’t have hormones, you don’t care about sex.

‘I mean, you can do it, but you’d rather have a smoothie. I didn’t like being there. I used to really like it, and I had three miserable years.’

The star also says it is important to pay close attention to your gut after developing her Gut Renew Superfood Protein Formula.

‘If there’s one thing I hear over and over again, everyone is complaining about their stomachs! Can’t get on top of the bloating! My stomach is distended! Our stomachs are a mess!,’ she explained to DailyMail.com.

‘I have written at length in my books on how our stomachs have suffered from chemicals in our food supply and toxins in the environment. The devastating results can lead to gut issues, unwanted weight gain, sluggish energy and just not feeling our best.

‘Our gut health is critical to overall health! If we want to feel great, look our best and have optimal health, we must start with a healthy gut.’

Create your glow: Boost your self-esteem by wearing makeup everyday

Suzanne (seen this year) also advises fans to keep wearing makeup as a way to boost their ‘self-esteem’ as they age

Though Suzanne believes most of the work to maintain your youth is down to what you eat, she advises women to keep wearing makeup as a way to boost their ‘self-esteem’.

‘A beauty regimen is so important as you age, because you want to present your best face not only to yourself and your husband or your family, but to the world,’ she said during a video interview with Yahoo! Lifestyle.

The siren – seen on the beach in LA in 1982 – made a business of staying young following her 2001 breast cancer diagnosis

‘And to not take care of yourself means you don’t value yourself. I comb my hair every day and I get dressed every day, and most days, put on a little eyeliner just to open up the eyes,’ added the Step By Step star. ‘It’s part of my self-esteem to present the best face that I am capable of presenting.’

The Ropers alum also revealed her biggest tip for women over the age of 50 is to not wear the same makeup they wore in their 20s.

She said: ‘The biggest beauty mistake women over 50 make that I see is continuing to do the makeup they did when they were in their 20s.

‘Because at 50, 60, 70, 80, it starts looking thick and heavy because you have to put on more. Your lines aren’t as defined as they were.

‘We have cell phones. You can take a picture of yourself, and the cell phone pictures don’t lie. And just see if what you’re doing is working.’

The health spokesperson and businesswoman added how the secret to maintaining her youthful ‘glow’ is making sure she is looking after her hair and skin and eating healthy.

She added: ‘The best piece of advice that I could give women over 50 is what you put into life is what you get out of it.’

The She’s The Sheriff alum added: ‘If you’re not going to take care of yourself, it’s going to show on your face, and on your body, and it’s going to cause accelerated aging.

‘So take good care of yourself. Feed yourself right. Use the right products on your hair and skin. It gives me this glow, this joy, that my purpose, that I’m doing the right thing with my life at the right time with my louder voice, which is such a privilege.’

Maintain a high libido: Twice-a-day sex sessions with her husband Alan Hamel, 86

Suzanna has been with partner Alan Hamel, 86, since 1977 and the pair say they still enjoy a health sex life (Pictured in 2005)

In 2019 Suzanne explained to DailyMail.com that Alan’s libido gets a boost from injections of the melanocortin based peptide PT-141, which she stated can also be used by women (pictured in 2021)

Suzanne has claimed that another part of life that helps keep you looking and feeling good is balancing out hormones as you age. Specifically, putting in the work to maintain a healthy libido as you grow older with the help of supplements.

In fact, the star has often boasted about the fact she still enjoys twice-a-day sex sessions with her second husband Alan Hamel after over 40 years of marriage and more than 50 years of being a couple.

During a candid conversation on the podcast Heather Dubrow’s World, she shared that ‘because of hormones we’re having a lot of sex’.

The star added: ‘And at this stage of life most people think that’s, you know, over the hill. Too much information but what time is it, like noon? There’s already been three – I’ve had sex with him three times so far today.’

Speaking to DailyMailTV in another candid chat, she explained: ‘The reason I talk about sex is because at 73 everybody thinks it’s over, and I just want women and men to know it ain’t over.

‘Because I’ve put all of my hormones back, which I explain in my book, to optimal levels, my body’s operating like a young woman in that sense.’

Meanwhile, Alan, [AGE] also, admitted that his wife has transformed his life – and virility – thanks to a daily diet of human growth hormones, high end supplements, testosterone and DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone).

He even joked that he feels so energized in the bedroom that he tries to get his wife pregnant – on a daily basis.

Back in 2019 Suzanne explained to DailyMail.com that Alan’s libido gets a boost from injections of the melanocortin based peptide PT-141.

‘I’m kind of in that groove, like when you were younger and you’re in the mood all the time, and so is he because he’s on hormone replacements,’ she spilled.

When Suzanne discovered that PT-141 is a ‘sexual stimulant that works on your brain’, she decided to integrate it into her sex life with her man.

‘I thought: “Wow, what a great thing.” Because men have had Viagra, but this is actually a shot for both men and women that’s not a drug,’ she insisted. ‘It just stimulates that part of your brain that says: “Hey, I’m kind of in the mood.” And, so, isn’t that a wonderful thing? And it’s not a drug, so I love it.’

Meanwhile, the grandmother-of-three recommended progesterone cream and drinking tequila every single day at 5pm to boost your lover’s libido in later age in a chat with The Daily Beast.

Suzanne told The Daily Beast: ‘I may be in my 70s now, and I always thought when I got in this decade that it would be over and I just want people to know it ain’t over if you know how to take care of yourself.’

Suzanne met Hamel while working a gig as a prize model for the popular game show The Anniversary Game from 1969 to 1970.

The pair have been married since 1977. The star’s most recent book is A New Way to Age: The Most Cutting-Edge Advances in Antiaging.
