The dating expert explained that you and your partner are boyfriend/girlfriend once you have had the ‘define the relationship conversation.’

‘If you are actively going on dates with someone and dating, you are not in a relationship, you are not boyfriend/girlfriend,’ she added.

Charlotte then showcased synonyms for words to use once you have had the conversation, including ‘in a relationship,’ ‘together’ and ‘partner.’

Under the ‘talking’ portion of her chart, she described it as: ‘The window of time before the first date has taken place. If [you] met on [dating] apps, communication may just be via text.’

She explained that ‘talking’ is used to categorize the time leading up to the first date.

Under the ‘dating’ umbrella, Charlotte explained that this stage was broken up into three sub-categories: attraction (which is defined as one to three dates), compatibility (which includes three or more dates), and the right fit (which is between ‘six to 30 weeks’ of going on dates).

Charlotte initially decided to make the video describing the romance stages in response to content creator Montaine, who is known for sharing his thoughts on the dating scene

#stitch with @ohmontaine you get partial credit for not referring to someone youve been going on dates with as being in a #talkingstage HOWEVER, if you are actively doing on #dates with soemone you are #dating and your logic altogether is flawed. Also you lose another point for NEVER SHOWING US WHAT YOU ARE COOKING!! #fyp #foryou #datingtips #datingadvice

Charlotte initially decided to make the video describing the romance stages in response to content creator Montaine, who is known for sharing his thoughts on the dating scene.

To Montaine, going on dates is seeing someone, while dating is used to describe people who are boyfriend/girlfriend.

Charlotte stitched his video to explain why he was incorrect.

Many viewers flocked to the comments section and agreed with Charlotte.

One user wrote: ‘Dating is literally going on dates. Date-ing.’

Another person added: ‘Completely agree with you and he just makes it more complicated. I only have the energy to talk to or date one person so as soon as we are talking.’

‘Thank you, thank you,’ someone else wrote.

‘Thank you!! I’m sick of people saying they haven’t been in a relationship for years. It minimizes the months spent dating one person or another,’ one user said.

And while many social media users were on Charlotte’s side, others branded her take wrong, agreeing with Montaine instead.

One person wrote: ‘So angry for being so wrong. Dating someone implies longer term ie boyfriend/girlfriend. It’s not the first few dates stage where you’re just meeting.’

Another user added: ‘You’re literally wrong. I’m sorry to say but if you say “I’m dating someone”, I fully expect that y’all are in a committed relationship.’

‘Dating is boyfriend/girlfriend,’ someone else wrote.

‘This is crazy because I literally thought everyone thought dating is the same thing as being in a relationship lol what,’ a social media user added.
