I can't shake the worry that my wife is pregnant with her employer's baby | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: WHEN my wife took a job as a housekeeper, I had no idea she was leading a double life.

Now I suspect the baby she  is carrying is her employer’s, not mine. My life is unravelling and I’m devastated.

We have been married for ten years. I’m 40 and she’s 38.

We’ve had money problems since I lost my job in the pandemic, so when she was offered a live-in role, I reluctantly agreed she should take it.

She started last summer. When she came home at weekends, we’d have great sex, better than in years, because absence makes the heart grow fonder.

When she found out she was pregnant, I was delighted and assumed she’d pack in the job. But despite now being five months gone, she hasn’t quit.

Recently, she has grown distant, although she denies this. I started to become suspicious.

Last time she was home, I read her messages on her phone.

There were countless explicit conversations with one of her employers.

It was clear they were having an affair.

Worse, I learned that this isn’t a new relationship. It’s been going on for years.

I now believe she and her lover, a married man, engineered the job so she could be close to him.

I’m fairly sure the baby is his, though I can’t prove it. I’m scared to confront her because if I do I won’t be able to pretend this isn’t real.

I feel like I’m about to lose everything.

What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: This is a shocking situation, and I understand why you feel heartbroken, and why you’re reluctant to talk to your wife.

She has betrayed your trust in the most duplicitous way.

But there’s a baby involved here, so it’s vital you don’t bury your head in the sand.

You need to tell her what you’ve discovered and ask her to be honest with you.

Only then can you decide how you want to move forward.

My support pack, Cheating, Can You Get Over It?, has some pertinent advice.

Counselling – both alone and together if she’ll agree – would help you to deal with your feelings. Contact Tavistock Relationships (tavistockrelationships.org).

It’s important you find out whether the baby is yours.
