I hate it when people offer me their seat on the bus – I'm not a cripple | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: JUST because I walk with a crutch doesn’t mean I’m a cripple who needs to be offered a seat on public transport.

I’m sick of people insisting I sit down when I don’t want to.

I’m a 42-year-old man, I’m not old but I have a damaged leg from a car accident a few years ago.

The crutch helps me get around more steadily.

I still do everything anyone else can do – walking, cycling, climbing stairs.

When people jump up to give me their seat, it feels like they’re patronising me or trying to show how kind they are.

It’s just virtue signalling. Now, when someone offers me their seat, I ignore them.

If they repeat the offer, or tap me on the shoulder – like I’m too stupid to understand – I turn my back on them and stand there in silence.

I want them to feel as upset and offended as I do.
