Major bank to close 14 more branches this year – see the full list | The Sun

A MAJOR high street bank has announced that it is set to shut more than a dozen branches this year in its latest round of closures.

Barclays is set to shut the doors on another 14 locations across the country.

The bank is set to close branches across England and Wales, with sites in Cambridge, Llandeilo and Holmes Chapel among those affected.

All of the branches are set to close their doors in June.

Barclays has already announced a number of closures earlier this year.

Data from LINK, the UK's largest cash machine network, shows when banks are set to close over the next five months.

Barclays has announced a total of 68 branch closures this year.

In this month alone 11 Barclays branches have closed.

April will see another 22 shut their doors for the last time with seven more to follow in May.

Plus, earlier this month, the high street bank announced that another 14 will close in June.

This takes the total number of branches closing in June alone to 28.

Barclays has previously said that more customers are now choosing to do their banking online and on apps, rather than visiting in person.

Here's the new list of Barclays branches scheduled for closure:

  • Saltburn-by-the-Sea – 12 Station Street – June 30
  • Tiverton – 24 Fore Street – June 28
  • Honiton – 106 High Street – June 23
  • Caterham – 10 The Square – June 23
  • Wallington – 112 Woodcote Road – June 28
  • Folkestone – 65/67 Sandgate Road – June 23
  • Chippenham – 66 Market Place – June 23
  • Holmes Chapel – 1 The Square – June 23
  • Holmfirth – 13/15 Victoria Square – June 23
  • Bootle – 337/339 Stanley Road – June 30
  • Loughton – 207 High Road – June 22
  • Cambridge – 28 Chesterton Road – June 28

Barclays has been contacted for comment.

A number of high street banks have announced they will be closing branches this year.

In total, a whopping 316 bank branches across England, Scotland and Wales are to close, or have already closed, this year.

A further eight have been marked for closure, with no official date confirmed.

NatWest closed nine branches this month, with six more to come in April.

Santander closed three branches in March and Halifax closed one.

Nationwide will shut its branch in Kingswood on April 20.

While Lloyds customers will see six branches shut got good next month.

Typically if there are no banks in a town, you should be able to do some basic banking at your local Post Office. 

Many banks also offer a mobile banking service.

This is where your bank brings a bus to your local area that has the services that are usually available at your branch.

You should call up your bank to see if it runs a banking bus and they will be able to tell you where and when it will be parked.

Other banks use buildings such as village halls or libraries to offer mobile banking services.
