ReichMove! Owners takes semi-detached home off the market after potential buyers spot its NAZI surprise

  • EXCLUSIVE: Locals shocked at snap of neighbour’s driveway with swastika on it
  • Estate agent removed house from RightMove after browsers spotted Nazi icon

Residents in a well-to-do village have been shocked after pictures of a neighbour’s house for sale revealed what looks like a Nazi swastika on the front drive way.

It has been made clear the offending symbol was inserted into the brickwork long before the current occupiers moved in.

But eyebrows were raised when it was accidentally highlighted in photos of the property when it went up for sale on line.

The agent removed the listing over night after posts about the ‘Swastika Drive’ went viral, although the ‘For Sale’ sign is still up outside the house near Bradford, West Yorkshire.

Residents believe the swastika may have been laid out in the centre of the driveway as a prank by a contractor. But some social media users denied it was a Nazi emblem anyway.

Pictures of the for sale home in South Croft Avenue, Birkenshaw, went viral after pictures appeared to show a Nazi-like swastika on the driveway of the home

One post read: ‘That’s not a Nazi Swastika – fortunately! Theirs goes clockwise, the anti-clockwise version, seen here, is a holy symbol representing divinity, peace and spirituality and is often used in Buddhism and Hinduism.’

Although some were quick to make light-hearted gags about the unusual brickwork design, with one person saying: ‘Where is this screenshot from? Reichmove?’

Another quipped: ‘Is that a 55 house number or an SS headquarters nameplate?’

‘It’s third on the reich,’ said a third, with a fourth person adding: ‘Parking space is on the right – the far right.’

Following an outcry, it appeared someone had attempted to erase the symbol as there were signs of wear and tear on the driveway and it appeared faded.

The woman house-holder who answered the door refused to comment when asked if she had attempted to clean up the driveway.

She stood outside her home, gesturing towards the middle of the drive and shouting: ‘As you can see there isn’t a swastika there any more.’ She then locked herself inside the house.

Other residents of the street – South Croft Avenue, Birkenshaw – also saw the funny side.

One said: ‘I could not believe it. It has gone viral. We now realise the swastika has been there for about 10 years – probably longer. But we never even noticed it until it appeared on Twitter.

‘A number of driveways were resurfaced around the same time. So I don’t know if the did it as a bit of a p*** take and no one noticed until this one went up for sale.

‘It is probably 10 to 15 years ago the driveway has been down.’

Others said the sign was even older. One added: ‘We have lived here 27 years since i was three years old and that drive way was down before they even moved in.’

Another local added: ‘I walked past it every single day and I had not seen it until it was on Facebook and Twitter as the “Swastika Driveway”.

Another said: ‘I am sure the woman living there now is not happy with their house being associated with it but I find it quite funny to be honest,

‘We had our driveway done about five to ten years ago too but there are no swastikas on here. It could be a Hindu peace symbol I suppose.’
