Parents outraged that girls toy is more expensive than boys in pink tax row

Parents were left stunned when they realised a bag of building blocks that have been 'branded for little girls' is £7 more expensive than the original.

TikTok user Lee Tasker highlighted the price gap when he argued that 'pink tax' – an expense which is usually spoken about on women's hygiene products – actually starts in childhood with girls' toys.

In the video, which has gained more than 2,900 likes, Lee said: "Question for all the mums and dads on TikTok, which one of these products are you buying your daughter?"

He then displays a picture of building blocks in the standard colours and the pink/purple ones, he added: "This bag of mega blocks, that's blue and green, or this bag of mega blocks, which is pink and purple.

"This one or this one, just remember I said it's for your daughter."

He then acknowledges that most people would pick pink for their daughter – but then shocked parents when he revealed the price difference.

He said: "Most of you are probably gonna say this one, but what if I told you this one costs 13 pounds and this one costs 20 pounds? Which one are you buying now?

"Honestly, I didn't believe a single one of you when you said that the pink tax is on kids' toys as well, that girl's toys are generally more expensive, but yeah, it's and it is messed up."

Stunned parents took to the comments outraged by the price difference, as one user wrote: "I genuinely bought the first one for my daughter when she was younger for that reason."

Another added: "You should try baby clothes, literally boys are cheaper and have less options and it angers me."

A third said: "Honestly I'd buy both to have more colours. but if I can't I'd go with the blue bag since it's cheaper."

However, others disagreed with the outrage and provided a possible explanation.

They argued that it usually costs more for 'special edition toys' rather than the standard.

The manufacturer of the blocks, Fisher-Price, has been contacted for a comment.
