‘People "gag" when I share my toothbrush with husband – but I won’t change’

A woman's bedtime routine with her husband has horrified the internet.

Sarah-Jane Calleja made the "gag-worthy" confession on her podcast I Just Can't with SJ & Rach.

"I share my toothbrush with Tom," she explained.

"There's going to be someone sitting and listening to this going, 'that is so horrific, that is so disgusting, Sarah-Jane, I can't even… I'm gagging'.

"And then there's going to be half going, 'I do that too'."

She added that she's happy to do that even though she refuses to share a water bottle with her own daughter.

Dozens of listeners chipped in with their darkest secrets – including one woman who had bought five identical T-shirts in different sizes so she could fake her post-baby weight loss.

Sarah-Jane expected around half of listeners to agree with her that using your partner’s toothbrush is fine.

But in a poll conducted by Nine Honey, only 15% of respondents said they “see nothing wrong” with the unusually intimate act.

“I've never previously shared my toothbrush with partners, but Tom didn't care, and he'd just grab mine all the time,” Sarah-Jane said.

However while Sarah-Jane and her husband share some intimate aspects of their lives, there’s another aspect of married life that they do keep very separate.

"He does control our finances, which people probably find really strange,” Sarah-Jane said. “He doesn't share his money.

"Tom and I have been together for nine years, we're about to have our second child and I've never seen his bank account.”

The couple recently appeared on a property-trading reality show in Australia called The Block.

The property they sold had a reserve price of 4.08million Australian Dollars. They managed to mark it up for $4.1million, so they made a somewhat disappointing $20,000 for their efforts.

Even that bonus cash wasn’t shared, as she said: "The money we won from The Block went straight into his bank account… we didn't go 50/50."

But the couple are making some economies to keep their finances healthy: Sarah Jane admitted that they only have one toothbrush between them.
