Salt Bae offers students shameless 30% off deal on £1.2k gold-wrapped steaks

Salt Bae has been dubbed "shameless" for offering students 30% off gold-wrapped steaks – even though the deal would still set them back hundreds of pounds.

Even with the money off it's said a meal at his restaurant would still cost them over $1,000 (£806).

The celebrity chef was quickly criticised by people on social media after he said students could bag the deal at his Boston restaurant Nusr-Et.

At the discounted price it would still cost hundreds to tuck into Salt Bae's famous gold-wrapped beef, as the original price for his most expensive "Golden Armour" steak comes in at $1,500 (£1,209).

The 39-year-old, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, shared the news on Instagram as he posed for a picture in front of Harvard Business School.

He captioned the snap: "I could not go to the school, education is very precious, 30% discount to all students in Boston Nusr_Et restaurant."

But the news seems to have left people a little angry, and many users were quick to point out the obvious.

Many reminded him only wealthy people can afford to dine at his restaurant.

One person questioned: "However this is money for you, why don't you pay a scholarship to some students?"

Another said: "How about free meals to college students. College students ain't got no money man.

"We trying to get loan forgiveness as we speak."

A third added: "It smells more like early stage customer engagement rather than any pinch of good-heartedness."

Meanwhile a fourth chirped in: "A student cannot afford your steak get back on earth man."

It was back in 2017 that Salt Bae shot to fame when a video of him seasoning a slab of meat went viral online.

In the years following he's gone onto open an impressive 22 restaurants across the US, UK, Greece and Dubai.

Not to mention he's also managed to build up a net worth of over £40million.

Stars such as David Beckham, Jason Statham and Naomi Campbell have all been seen tucking into his feasts.

The menu at Nusr-Et's also comprises of £30 salads and £70 starters, but most people are tempted by the mighty meats.

To tuck into a steak you're looking at coughing up anything between £80 to £950 – the price all depends on whether you want your meat to be wrapped in gold.

The most expensive item on the menu is the "24 karat gold coated highly marble wagyu tomahawk" steak.

More recently the cooking celeb has been criticised for sharing a "cringey" video where he was filmed bragging about his lavish lifestyle.

He was slammed after he shared the boasting clip on Instagram, which saw the Turkish restaurateur waking up with cucumber pieces covering his eyes in his £36m palace in Istanbul, Macka Palace.

It goes onto see him being served by a waiter, and he also has a massage from a woman while posing on a table that's covered with foam.

He did all this while wearing his signature glasses for the whole performance.

People were left gobsmacked, with one person having replied: "I can't believe I watched the whole thing."

Another wrote: "He is a brand. Nothing more."
