Tesco worker rants we have nothing left to offer as store axes money service

A Tesco worker has hit out out at their own bosses after it was confirmed the supermarket axed its MoneyGram service.

The worker took to a public forum to bash their employer after it was revealed this week that Tesco is removing international money transfer services provided by MoneyGram from its stores.

Tesco bosses say the axing of the service has come due to low demand from customers.

The move is likely to benefit Post Office branches, who now represent the only nearby options for many MoneyGram service users.

Moaning about the news in public forum verylittlehelps.com, the Tesco worker fumed the supermarket now has 'nothing better to offer' over budget retailers.

They wrote online: "So a lot of stores are losing MoneyGram service, how has this affected the hours for your customer service desk? Wondering why the service had gone?

"We are a very busy store, we are near many warehouses that employ a lot of Eastern Europeans that use this service.

"It seems that every service we offered has gone. No glass hire, no banking, no customer orders, no accompanied shops. In fact every thing that made us stand out from competitors has gone.

"At one time customers could come as a one stop shop destination, you could purchase everything, sat navs, fridges, TVs. Customers may as well use budget supermarkets now, as we have nothing better to offer."

Despite the moan, another Tesco worker replied to the post saying that MoneyGram is a 'waste of time' and said they're 'glad it's gone'.

Complaints from Tesco shoppers online appear to show the removal of MoneyGram services has been ongoing at least since April this year, according to betterretailing.com.

Tesco said in a statement to Daily Star: "Tesco Bank can confirm we’re closing our International Money Transfer (IMT) service at a number of our stores due to very low demand from customers."

The company has so failed to answer whether MoneyGram services were being withdrawn from all sites.

Back in 2000, Tesco claimed the services were available in 800 stores but searches on MoneyGram’s store finder list only a handful of Tesco sites still providing the service.

Many supermarkets, including Tesco, have been slimming down services and features such as food and deli counters, glassware hire and pharmacy concessions recently – with analysts saying the changes are an attempt to remove operational cost to better compete with much more streamlined discounters such as Aldi and Lidl.

The news comes after Tesco also recently made changes to its Clubcard points system also.
