Inside the venue he was joined by famous faces including Sir Lenny Henry, Sir Michael Palin, and Sue Barker.

This September marks the Radio Times’ 100th anniversary, with the event also welcoming cover stars from across the decades including Sir Tony Robinson, and newsreader Angela Rippon.

The late monarch featured on the cover of Radio Times 53 times, more than any other person in Radio Times’ 100-year history, including 10 as Princess Elizabeth and 43 times during her 70-year reign.

The earl was presented with the special covers by Scottish TV presenter Kirsty Young.

Kirsty said: ‘This year marks the 100th anniversary of Radio Times and throughout that century Britain and the world has changed, in some ways beyond recognition, but for the majority of that time one thing remained constant.’

‘Elizabeth II was the first sovereign of the television age. A medium she mastered so completely, that by the last year of her life she was as comfortable performing a two-hander with Paddington Bear as she was delivering her annual Christmas message.’

Tom Loxley, Radio Times’ joint-editor, added: ‘It was an honour to welcome The Earl of Wessex to Radio Times’ annual celebration of our cover stars, and fitting that it’s in our centenary year.

‘Queen Elizabeth, and the Royal Family, graced our front cover regularly throughout her reign and she holds a special place in our history and with our readers.’

Cover stars from 2022 included Dame Denise Lewis, Professor Brian Cox, Louis Theroux, Jenny Agutter, as well as the cast of the BBC’s Call The Midwife.

It comes after Princess Eugenie has announced she and her husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting their second child this summer, the line of succession has once again been shifted.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September last year, the royal family’s line of succession moved around as King Charles ascended the throne and the Prince and Princess of Wales assumed their new roles, giving up the titles they previously held as Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Princess Eugenie is pregnant with her second child and due to give birth in the summer, it has been announced (pictured, with her son August)

Now Eugenie, 32, who is currently 11th in line to the throne, will see her second child added into the line of succession, meaning several people behind him or her will be pushed back a step.

With August Brooksbank, who is just about to turn two years old, 12th in line to the throne, the new arrival this summer will take 13th place – bumping their great uncle Prince Edward to 14th in line to the throne.

Princess Eugenie is the youngest daughter of Prince Andrew (who is eighth in line) and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

The 32-year-old’s older sister Beatrice, 34, is ninth in line while Beatrice’s daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, takes 10th place.
