A Town Called Malice is coming to Sky on March 16 and the Lords are handed a golden opportunity to reinvent themselves. However, they spend as much time battling each other as they do their opponents. Express.co.uk has all you need to know about where the series is filmed and set.

Where is A Town Called Malice filmed?

The series follows a family of former South London gangsters who’ve fallen to the bottom of the criminal food chain.

They attempt to start a new life in Costa del Sol and re-capture their former glory.

Creator Nick Love explained how the series was filmed in Tenerife.

He said: “Filming in Tenerife, which is less built up than the modern-day Costa Del Sol, gave us the opportunity to recreate the setting more authentically.

“But given the historical context, it wasn’t just a stylistic choice.

“The backdrop of our neon-lit beach clubs, palm trees and sun-kissed coastlines, represents a playground of opportunity for anyone with aspirations of reinvention.”

Leonard Lord actor Lex Shrapnel opened up about being reunited with his old friend and co-star, Jason Flemyng for the series.

He said: “It was my first day of filming in a little house on an estate in the suburbs of London, and it was like meeting an old friend.

“I hadn’t met him up to that point. But he knew that my dad had passed away relatively recently.

“So we locked eyes, and he gave me a hug. And that was the start of a really, really beautiful friendship between the two of us.

“We were jogging buddies, tennis buddies and drinking buddies out in Tenerife. It really warmed my heart.

“My mother came over to visit when we were in Tenerife, and she very much loved the fact that this friendship had continued through me. It just felt very right that Jason was playing my father.”

When is A Town Called Malice set?

The series is set in the early 80s with a soundtrack featuring some huge hits from the era.

Creator Nick explained: “The world of A Town Called Malice is a vibrant, heady one.

“Dripping with effortless 80’s style and attitude, that permeates through the screen.

“A big part of our world is music: music shapes the world, the characters and their experiences.”

On recreating the 80s Costa Del Sol, he added: “A Town Called Malice takes place on the Costa del Sol in the early 80s.

“Which thanks to the breakdown of the extradition treaty between England and Spain in the late 1970s, opened the floodgates for British criminals to escape the law and live freely in the Spanish sunshine.

“And being criminals, they saw opportunities most people didn’t.”

The cast fully embraced 80s fashion and culture for the high-octane series.

A Town Called Malice airs on Sky from March 16.
