Arthur crushed in Emmerdale as Marshall calls being gay 'disgusting'
Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) was left heartbroken in Emmerdale after crush Marshall Hamston (Max Fletcher) told him that they could no longer be friends, claiming that being gay is ‘disgusting’ and ‘wrong’.
Marshall, as viewers know, is the son of local councillor Colin (Mark Noble), who Laurel (Charlotte Bellamy) spoke to earlier this week after the news that Arthur’s LGBTQ+ assembly had been cancelled.
Colin, however, proved of little use, and argued that parents have the right to their values, which left the mum seething, as she made it her mission to have the decision reversed, reiterating that Arthur is simply teaching tolerance and acceptance.
Arthur was told that he could do the assembly, but only after parents had the opportunity to withdraw their children, much to Laurel’s dismay, but the penny soon dropped as she realised that it was Colin who had lodged the complaint.
To complicate things further, Colin is dad to Marshall, who has been spending a lot of time in Arthur’s company as of late, following his prank in which he claimed to be romantically interested in him.
Marshall clarified that he never meant to hurt Arthur and even added that he would very much like to go on a date, leaning in for a kiss. Before they could kiss, however, Marshall was summoned home by a phone call from his homophobic dad.
Arthur, meanwhile, has been desperate to make sure Marshall was okay, sending him a text, but he never received a reply. Friday’s (February 3) edition of the ITV soap saw Marshall confront Arthur, telling him that they can no longer be friends.
Arthur tried to make him see that this was what Colin wanted, not him, but Marshall shut him down, claiming that being gay is ‘wrong’, before ordering Arthur to stay away.
Will Marshall see that his dad is homophobic?
Will he stay away from Arthur like his father has ordered? Or will he and Arthur continue to spend time together?
Emmerdale continues Monday February 6 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
