BBC Breakfast unrecognisable after huge studio makeover in first look snaps

BBC Breakfast fans might look twice when they tune in to their favourite morning news show next week, because the studio has undergone a huge transformation.

But fans can rest assured that the famous red sofa hasn't been axed and is very much at the heart of the new set, meaning hosts like Jon Kay and Sally Nugent will feel right at home.

The BBC has revealed first look images of its brand new multipurpose Breakfast studio after getting its first makeover in over a decade.

The fancy new set is larger than the old studio and features three more cameras and some of the latest broadcasting technology available, including high-tech GFX.

But despite its revamped appearance, it's not moving from its home in Salford's Media City, so hosts Jon and Sally won't have to change their commute when they host the first show in the brand new studio on Monday.

The BBC Breakfast team will also share the new studio space with BBC Sport, who will use it for their daily Sportsday programme, live bulletins throughout the day and the twice-weekly Football News Show.

Viewers will also spot a brand new camera angle which the BBC explains "highlights the position of the studio at the heart of BBC North operations within Salford Quay House where BBC Breakfast, Sport and 5Live are based."

BBC Breakfast Editor Richard Frediani said of the makeover: "After celebrating 10 years in Salford and 40 years on BBC One it was time for a new look and studio for the UK’s most watched morning show.

“Breakfast is how millions of Britons start their day, and I hope they’ll enjoy seeing their favourite presenters in a bright, modern space."

Sally Nugent said: “The new studio is a wonderful addition to BBC Breakfast, and I can’t wait to host the first live morning show on the 26th June. We have recently celebrated our 40th anniversary and this is a great gift to mark the occasion.

Jon Kay added: “Our new studio is state of the art and we couldn’t be more pleased with it. We’re looking forward to bringing the public the same BBC Breakfast they know and love from a fresh new setting.”

The BBC explained: "The new studio is part of the BBC’s strategy to introduce new, versatile studios that can be used by multiple teams throughout the day to provide the best value for audiences.

"The space is going to be used for more than 20 hours a day, 365 days a year."
