BGTs Ant McPartlin suffers heavy fall live on-air in opening minutes of semi-final

The live semi-final of the 2023 instalment of Britain's Got Talent got off to a jaw-dropper of a start as Ant McPartlin suffered a "heavy fall" live on-air.

The much-loved ITV talent show aired its first semi-final on Monday night with several acts competing to get into the coveted final.

But the festivities got off to a rocky start when Ant, 47, took a dramatic tumble after sliding on the stage floor.

The host hit the deck following an opening number performed by 2009 winners, London-based dance group Diversity, fronted by Dancing On Ice judge, Ashley Banjo.

And as BGT presenter Ant and his co-host Declan Donnelly made their way centre stage to introduce the first act, Ant slipped into the air, landing onto his back before dancer Ashley helped him to his feet.

To which Ant admitted to viewers: "Ouch, my back. Wow, if you didn't catch that on telly, that was quite a heavy fall."

Meanwhile Dec, also 47, struggled to contain his laughter, eventually asking his pal: "Are you okay?"

"I wet myself and farted at the same time!" Ant joked back.

Judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Bruno Tonioli and Alesha Dixon also picked up on the blunder, standing up to check if the host was hurt.

Dec later teased Ant by repeating his fall in slow-motion for the viewers at home, dubbing the slip his "favourite part" of the show's first segment.

After watching his fall played back to him, Ant joked to BGT head Simon: "You better lawyer up!"

Alesha jibed that she'd "love to press rewind" so she could watch him hit the floor again, while long-standing judge Amanda asked Ant whether his "coccyx was alright".

And it wasn't just the Britain's Got Talent judges that poked fun at Ant over his stumble, as thousands of viewers at home fled to Twitter to discuss the rib-tickling show opener.

"Ant saying I wet myself and farted [laughing emoji] live on tv after diversity performed #BGT #BritainsGotTalent" one fan tweeted.

Another jibed: "Oh my gosh Ant just ‘Dec’ed it"

"How many times will Ants fall be on blooper shows over the next few years?! That was a sore one" a third penned.

The official BGT Twitter account also tweeted: "Don't worry, Ant's fine! #BGT #BritainsGotTalent #BGT2023 @antanddec"
