Coleen Nolan slams ‘ridiculous’ EastEnders storyline as ex Shane Richie returns

Coleen Nolan is far from impressed with the storyline surrounding her ex-husband Shane Richie's return to BBC's EastEnders.

The singer and actor recently returned to the popular soap following a three-year hiatus but while some have praised his return, others were less than impressed.

Having burst onto the scene after his two sons Bert and Ernie sneakily texted his character, Alfie on their mum Kat's (Jessie Wallace_ phone following a run-in with their stepdad, Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Despite Alfie being overjoyed to see his former flame, Kat was pretty furious when Alfie appeared on her doorstep hours before she was set to marry Phil.

However, Alfie has promised to stick around on Albert Square as he attempts to win his ex back, claiming he would prove she's making the wrong decision by marrying Phil.

Speaking on Loose Women about his return, Katie Piper asked Coleen: "Don't you think Kat and Phil make a great couple?"

The singer and presenter however fumed: "No! No, I'm sorry, it's ridiculous.

"You would not pick Phil over Alfie, absolutely [speaking from past experience].

"Kat and Alfie just go together; they've been together for years, Phil's just always miserable."

But Katie quipped: "Well he's not anymore now he's got Kat," before Coleen erupted into laughter.

Shane previously stated it was an "honour" to be asked to return to Walford after his character fled Walford after borrowing £30K from Phil Mitchell.

He had offered his car as collateral after people he scammed contacted him but after seeing an opportunity, he hopped in his motor and didn't return.

Speaking about his return, Shane said: "It's an absolute honour and privilege to be asked back to my TV home of Albert Square.

"I'm looking forward to catching up with some old cast mates and meeting some new ones.

"The new exec producer Chris Clenshaw has been instrumental in wanting to bring Alfie Moon back with some wonderful storylines… and who am I to say no?! I can't wait."

Producer Chris said that Alfie was one of the "most iconic" and "loveable" characters on the programme, going on to add: "Shane Richie created one of the most iconic, loveable and most memorable characters in soap, and to welcome him back to Walford is an absolute pleasure.

"A lot's happened since Alfie's been away from the Square but wherever his floral shirts go you can expect fun, frolics and, of course, the odd porky pie.

"We're over the moon to have him home."
