Coronation Street fans blast characters awful habit

Coronation street star calls Rob Burrows an inspiration following his set visit

Fans of the ITV soap know that Leanne Battersby (played by Jane Danson) has been keeping her partner Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) son away from him after making a discovery a few weeks ago. However, Nick, who hasn’t spent any time with his son, schoolboy Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan), in over a month, expressed how much he missed him in the latest episode. However, Leanne informed Sam he couldn’t go to an Easter egg hunt hosted at his gran’s house because Nick would be there. Several Coronation Street viewers fumed as they took to social media to complain that Leanne isn’t Sam’s mother.

Leanne demanded Nick stay away from both her and Sam after it turned out Nick was involved with villain Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths).

Leanne and Nick have faced their fair share of heartache, but they recently found themselves in danger because of Nick’s dodgy plans.

Earlier this year, he had been blackmailed by Damon to run drugs through his restaurant, and thanks to this, Sam ended up being held at gunpoint.

A furious Leanne kicked Nick out of the house once she learned the truth.

Ever since, she hasn’t allowed Nick to see Sam despite not actually being Sam’s mother.

Fans spotted Leanna did the same thing a few years ago with Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne) and his son, Simon Barlow (Alex Bain).

Eventually, Leanne got full custody of Simon after splitting with Peter, despite not being Simon’s biological mother.

On Friday’s episode, Nick’s sister Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) invited him and Simon to enjoy some Easter fun with her.

Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) agreed, stating her daughter Lily Platt (Brooke Malonie) would “love” to go.

“What about Sam, would he like to come?” asked Sarah’s son Harry Platt (Freddie and Isaac Rhodes).

“I doubt it, my family don’t want anything to do with me at the moment,” Nick replied.

“You’d think she would have forgiven you by now,” Sarah commented.

“She still thinks Damon’s a threat,” Nick replied as Shona remarked: “She has to look out for Sam.”

Later, Sarah tried to convince Leanne to allow Simon to join them.

“So, will Nick be there?” Leanne asked pointedly, to which Sarah replied: “Well yeah, there’s a chance he might show up after work.”

“We’ll be in the garden,” Sam pointed out before Leanne snapped: “Sam, it’s not that simple.”

After initially refusing, Leanna later had a change of heart and her and Sam turned up at Sarah’s.

Nick asked Leanne’s permission to go outside with Sam, and she agreed.

However, fans of the soap blasted Leanne’s habit of “accruing her ex’s children”.

Twitter user @sooby72 fumed: “Why does Leanne in #Corrie nick everyone else’s kids? Sam is not hers and she did the same with Simon. Totally unrealistic. #coronationstreet.”

@shelley_threcco added: “Leanne seems to have developed a talent for accruing her ex’s children #Corrie.”

@Melody81421958 shared: “Will someone remind Leanne that Sam is not her child? Like how has Nick not said those words at all? First, she took Simon, now Sam. As if she’s any sort of role model. Miserable cow. #corrie.”

“I love how Leanne takes on everyone’s son and doesn’t let them see their dads. She did the same with Simon at one point #corrie,” @a___w89 remarked.

@KlCKASSCANTONA penned: “Leanne does realise Sam is Nick’s son, doesn’t she? Ffs @itvcorrie #Corrie.”

@Dayjur11 asked: “How does Leanne always end up bringing up her exes kids? #Corrie.” (sic)

@liadaksy added: “Leanne Sam is not your child #Corrie,” while @Clawmaw tweeted: “Leanne is keeping Sam away from his dad, like he’s her son! She’s awful! Nick needs to stick up for himself! #Corrie #CoronationStreet.”

Coronation Street continues on Monday at 8pm on ITV.
