Coronation Street fans share their love as Sally Carman quits social media

Coronation Street fans have offered their love and support to Sally Carman, who announced she is taking a break from social media ‘for the next few weeks’.

The actress, who plays Abi Webster on the ITV soap, took to Instagram to share the news with fans, having decided to take some time away from the platform.

‘Taking a bit of a break from social media for the next few weeks,’ she wrote in a post on Thursday (February 23), sharing a picture with those words written on it, coupled with a heart emoji as the caption.

Fans were quick to inundate the soap star with words of support and love, with one writing: ‘Take care! I deactivate my facebook for months and I’m still off it! It does the head good.

‘Don’t blame you,’ said another, ‘it’s good to detox.’

One social media user wrote that they hoped everything was okay, while one more added: ‘Enjoy your break away from social media.’

Sally married co-star Joe Duttine, who plays Tim Metcalfe, in July of last year, two years after getting engaged.

Sally, who wore a gorgeous blue dress for the special occasion, shared a snap of the wedding on Instagram at the time, with her pictured holding a glass of champagne in her hand as she kissed new husband Joe, who was sporting a grey cap and blue suit.

‘We did’, she wrote, followed by a yellow heart emoji, which is perhaps a reference to her social media caption from 2020, when she announced her and Joe’s engagement with a simple: ‘I did’.

Sally and Joe, who were first connected in 2018, got engaged during the first national Covid-19 lockdown back in 2020.

Abi, meanwhile, will be busy on the cobbles this year, with Corrie boss Iain McLeod promising a big story for the character.

The executive producer told us that this year there’ll be ‘happiness more than sadness’ for Abi as she becomes embroiled in a big story involving one of the younger members of the Coronation Street cast, to whom she becomes a ‘surrogate mum.’
