Coronation Street John Stapes return – Phil is Johns brother to fake death

Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape have to confront Hope in Coronation Street this week, after she pulls a hammer out on her classmates.

Hope recently found a copy of a book about her serial killer father John Stape – and some fans think that she could be walking down a dark path herself as her behaviour becomes more worrying.

The publication of the book about John Stape has put many residents on edge, despite the villain presumably dying in hospital after a spate of murders and kidnaps.

However, fans are convinced John is still alive – and have worked out that he had a secret brother on the cobbles.

Here, Daily Star takes a closer look at the theories surrounding John Stape.

John Stape is still alive

Despite dying in hospital, Coronation Street fans think that John Stape's death could have been a hoax – and that the villain could make a return to the cobbles.

After Hope began receiving mysterious messages from an online gamer called Mad Dog, fans have begun to suspect that their real identity could be her father – and that John has been secretly chatting to his daughter online.

One viewer said: "Hope’s on about Mad Dog again… her dad’s deffo still alive!"

"Yes [Mad Dog is] John Stape!" said a second.

A third said: "Bring back John Stape," while a fourth asked: "John Stape is still alive?"

"The return of John Stape?" commented a fifth, with a sixth saying: "When is John Stape coming back?"

If their suspicions are true, John's return to the cobbles could certainly spell danger for Fiz and the other Weatherfield residents in the future.

Jade returns

Coronation Street fans were left shocked when Jade Rowan was revealed as the daughter of John Stape in 2019.

Jade was a teaching assistant who worked with Hope and befriended Fiz, but she had an ulterior motive as she harrowingly tried to turn fellow residents against Fiz – and even made out that Fiz had been abusing Hope.

The lies were soon uncovered and the truth about her identity exposed, but fans think that she could be making a return to the cobbles.

Some viewers have speculated that Mad Dog's secret identity could be Jade Rowan – and that she will come back for revenge following the release of the book about her father.

"I can see Jade – Hope's half-sister – coming back when the book about John Stape comes out," said one fan.

"Fiz, John Stape had another daughter too remember," added a second.

Meanwhile a third suggested: "John Stape's daughter – I reckon we've got a new Weatherfield kidnapper on the cobbles."

Hope becomes a killer

Hope Stape leaves her friends and family horrified next week, when she pulls a hammer out of her bag and makes her way towards two peers in anger.

The youngster recently found a copy of the book about her villainous father, and some fans think that she may become a killer herself after being involved in a series of worrying incidents.

One viewer said: "Fiz needs to wake up and stop making excuses for Hope's behaviour. If she doesn't do something now, the kid is going to turn out to be another psychopath like her father John Stape."

"Looks like Hope is turning out to be evil like John Stape her biological father," added a second.

Hope star Isabella Flanagan has also teased that a horrific storyline could be in store for her character, revealing that there could be an "awful" twist ahead.

Speaking to Inside Soap, she said: "I feel as if Hope might quieten down a bit. But then they’ll make her do something super bad.

"Everyone will think she’s doing something nicer, and then Boom! – she’ll do something awful."

Phil is John Stape's brother

Coronation Street fans were left with another shock twist earlier this year, after it was revealed that Phil Whittaker was writing a book about Fiz's serial killer ex.

However, viewers suspect that there might be more than meets the eye, and that he has written the book as he has a personal link to John.

The link? He is John Stape's brother.

One fan said: "He's either Snape's brother, big likeness," while a second agreed: "I think Phil is related to John Stape."

"Have they at all hinted that Phil is John Stape's brother," commented a third.

If he is not related to John Stape, fans are still suspicious of Phil's actions and have begged Fiz to remain cautious.

Phil may have left the cobbles earlier this year, but viewers think he could come back and try to profit from Fiz – or take revenge on Hope for ruining their wedding day.

"He eventually is going to try and profit from your story of John Stape," commented one fan, while another added: "Phil is just out to profit from Fiz's misery life with John Stape."

"Who is this mad dog on hopes pad, Phil ? Trying to get revenge maybe?," asked another viewer.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
