Corries Jacob star vows hell be back to ruin Amy Barlows wedding in 5 years

Coronation Street fans were devastated on Friday night as they were forced to say goodbye to one of the street's best loved characters.

Jacob Hay departed the cobbles after a drug deal involving his dodgy dad Damon went wrong – looking to all the world like he'd reverted back to his old ways and started pushing drugs once more.

Forced to take the fall for his dad, Jacob was urged to run.

With actor Jack James Ryan making the decision to quit his role on the street after two years, it's definitely goodbye for now. But he teased it could turn into a see you later, with Jacob returning in five years to ruin Amy Barlow's wedding.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press, Jack admitted he will "never say never" to a soap return – and he already has his ideal storyline in mind.

"This fantastic writer on the show that we have, David Proud, he said to me, 'The best time to bring a character back is when it’s going to cause the most damage theatrically'," Jack explained.

"So I kind of had a daydream that in five years time, when Amy has sort of settled down and found the man she really loves and they’re just about to get married…

"Jacob bursts through the door and goes, 'I object!' I thought that would be quite a cool idea. I think it would be cool for him to get that opportunity to clear his name, because I think he does deserve it."

But now, Jack says, isn't the right time for Jacob to come waltzing back in, with everyone blaming him for the most recent drug scandal.

He confessed: "I think if he came back now the reception would be awful, not very good at all. But I do think if time passes or whatever I think that Amy would secretly be happy to see him.

"I think the connection was so strong – dare I say they were soulmates? They were both at very formative years of their lives when they met each other, that young, first love. I think they’ll always have that.

"But I don’t know if it’s possible to win the street over for a second time. If anyone can do it, maybe Jacob can. Who knows?"

Jack has already booked his next job after quitting Corrie – but has to keep it secret for now.

He teased: "I have booked a job. I’m really really excited for it, I start filming next month and will be filming for the next four months on that.

"I’m really excited but can’t say anything at the moment!"
